An IPA, of course. We’re blending our two approaches to the IPA in this East Meets West IPA. Sierra Nevada’s malt body and profile was blended with the heavy-handed, very late hopping schedule employed by Tree House to create a new, hybrid IPA. Lightly bitter and heavy with citrus-like hop flavor.

On tap at Hay Merchant. Pours a clear gold with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is grapefruit, earth, pine. Medium body, tropical fruit, earth, nice bitterness, very good.

Can poured into a snifter showing a finger of clean white foam with well filtered golden brown. The nose shows notes of lemon and pine resin. The palate is medium bodied and fully carbonated. Strong pine resin forwardness with a malt mid-palate and a moderate bitterness on the finish.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 4/28/2017. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy medium golden/yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, honey, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, honey, wheat, cracker, biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, honey, wheat, cracker, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an outstanding IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the restrained bitterness. Awesome hop vibrancy, and fairly juicy/dank. Really great hybrid between the two coast IPA styles as advertised. Nicely bitter without being aggressive; and nice creamy malty presence, without being sweet. A highly enjoyable offering.

Slightly hazy with loads of creamy foam.
Smells of pine needles, oranges, grass grapefruit, overall fruity and hoppy.
Fruit hop juiciness grabs my attention. Not as much pine here as in the smell. More grass and citrus of the orange and grapefruit kind. Bready malt follows throughout just in the shadows of the hops.
Slick and juicy mouthfeel.
Oops, notes of melon hitting my palate right aboot now.
Good beer.

Can from the mix pack from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Hoppy and fruity aroma. Made think of garlic. Med body or better. Flavor is lightly sweet caramel, but there’s an awful lot of hop - sort of evergreen, sort of citrus, and garlic came up again. I find garlic hard to believe, but my brain does its own thing. Fairly dry after all, and nicely bitter, tho not at all harsh - amazing considering the hop presence.

Pint can from the mix pack from Barracks Road Kroger. Pours golden with a golden head. A Very citrus aroma, hints of melon and pine. Flavor is very citrus and pine, some juiciness in the back end. Quite good.

16 ounce can. Pours a clear dark copper color with a medium white head. A big grassy husky nose. The flavor is oranges, orange peel, lemons, low bitterness, certainly has that SN flavor. Really reminds me of Torpedo. Smooth. Lovely beer.

16 oz can from the pack. Aroma is citrusy, peach, citrus powder drink, Fun Dip sticks, grain, light onion. Pours slightly hazy golden with a thick off-white head with excellent retention and lace that sheets the entire glass. Taste is medium bitter with lots of citrus, some peach flavors. Nice.

Tallboy can. Last of the mix pack. Sad. Its been an amazing one. Hazy yellow, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of insane dank. Almost rubber tires. Some resin and leafiness. Odd aroma notes I know, but its solid. The taste is onion, resin, pine, dank, earth, pale malt. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Interesting, different. Nice.

Can. A- Mango, papaya, pineapple, tangerines, grass, slightly dank. A- Golden orange color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Mild bitterness, slightly dry, grassy, tropical citrus. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly dry bitter finish. O- If this is even a hint at what Tree House is doing, then I can understand the hype. A very balanced IPA that even non-hopheads like myself can appreciate. Loaded with citrus and a fine touch of bitterness. Tasty stuff.
