Nomikurabe @ Oedo Beer Festival at Machida. Pours golden, somewhat hazy and not that strongly carbonated. Nose has light orange marmalade on top of bready malt base. Taste has lots of fruitiness, coupled with a sweet malty body that makes for a quite sweet beer. Fruity as well, yes. Decent but a bit underwhelming.

Really good! Mikan is sorta an orange. Very citrusy, very smooth.

Bottle from Hasegawa. Very cloudy golden, almost pastel, with a low, fine head. Nose is mikan, more of the sour type, with helles-like malts, biscuity. Ok but doesn’t really work for me. Caramel, Munich malt. Big citrus and very sweet and biscuity, honey, oranges, not enough tartness to balance. Also a bit too full and heavy. Interesting idea, with a lager-like base to the citrus beer, but needs tuning.

Nagisa Mikan Ale 5.5% I snagged one of the last bottles at Yamaoka 山岡酒店. A very cloudy honey orange-gold with a decent head of foam but no lacing whatsoever. An earthy orange with some diacetyl in the aroma. Medium bodied with quite a full mouthfeel. The taste is earthy, bready mikan (mandarin oranges) but there is a touch of sweet diacetyl as well unfortunately.
