This year’s Orochi from Shimane Beer. This is a cool series where a craft brewery in Shimane works with a different sake brewery each year to make a sake/beer hybrid strong golden ale that is usually about 10% ABV.
This year’s is 9%. It has a very rich full fruity aroma that to me definitely evokes sake. A completely opaque honey gold with a raspy carbonation and a fruity rich sweet honey like flavor. Sweet it finishes dry. Very nice, I’m liking this more than last year’s version.

Tap at Komachi. Very fruity nose, apricot, honey, orange, some pineapple, the sake yeast comes through quite nicely. Cloudy golden color, leaning to the ornage, with a thick, low head. Quite sweet, but also prickly, peaches and a nice tartness. Light and prickly carbonation goes well with the peppery hops and spicy yeast. Not overly sweet. Great fruit and sake character.
