Tap at Tadg’s. Huge cardamom nose, with chocolate, coffee, milk. Black with lace. Sweet cocoa flavor, very spicy. A bit thin, and the cardamom is very off-putting to me.

Ise Kadoya Chocolate Porter 6% Ordered this online and when I got it I discovered it had cardamom in it. Now I’m really excited to try it. It pours a deep inky black with a beige head. The label says it’s made with cocoa powder, cardamom & orange peel. I’m really digging the aroma soft cardamom and milky chocolate though it is much more spice than cocoa forward. Full velvety mouthfeel but a sharp carbonation makes for a jarring texture. If it was milky smooth it would rock. The taste is floral/herbal cardamom with a short hit of orange and cocoa powder. This is a very nice and creative take on a Japanese Valentine’s Chocolate beer. Try this if you see it, I’m guessing this would be awesome on cask though I’m guessing that’s a pipe dream.
