Drunken King. Probably the cheapest imperial stout in Japan, which is amazing considering how great it is. Boozy but smooth, complex. Sweet roasted malt. #chouseiya

Last one at the Craftheads event. Very nice taste. Aroma has lots of booze, berries. Taste is lightly fruity, bit of choc, some bitterness. Can feel the strength. Almost has some heat to it too. Very nice.

Very dark brown color. The nose is fuckin weird. Like sticking your nose in a barrel of cut open unripe plums that are covered in port. Very rich tart, pugnent, estry and powerful. Fairly boozy, never sweet, fairly tart, roasted malt, plums, port, chocolate cake, rasins. Very tightly wounded up, almost tannic. This puppy doesn’t need another year, it needs another three years. Wow. Port, plums and raisins linger in the finish. Deserves the score I am giving above, but I am sure this score will only get better in time. First rating from Jan 2016. Tried again at Y Market in May 2017. The port plum and raisins are all there but now more integrated. Low carbonation. Super smooth. Finishes like a cigar dipped in port and molasses. The body is super light. Damn this beer is fine. The age is really helping this. Originally 4.1, but I am nudging this up, especially because it’s 13% and drinks like 7%. Wow

On tap at Kamikaze. Y market Meitei King Imperial Stout 12.7% It pours s pitch black with a tan head & a roasty chocolate syrup and marshmallow aroma. Full bodied with a scratchy carbonation and a fairly luscious mouthfeel. The taste has a wine-like fruitiness, dark chocolate, marshmallow, figs/candied fruits with a big amount of malty heat burning down your throat. Good stuff, though this monster beer KOed me.

Tap at Y. Market tap-takeover at Watering Hole. Inky, jet black with a one-finger bege head that dissipates fairly quickly. Fruit-forward nose with lots of pineapple, passionfruit and peach with some prune and toasted malt as it warms. Medium carbonation with a medium body. Almost like an Imperial Black IPA if there even is such a thing. So fruity and juicy for an impy. Even as it warms more and more juicy pineapple and passion fruit come out. Slight licorice flavor on the palate, but really original beer. Great finish that lingers. Body feels light for the style which makes it dangerously drinkable. Nothing cloying at all here. Wow. Seriously unique beer in Japan. --- Beer merged from original tick of Meitei King (酩酊キング) on 15 Nov 2015 at 20:30 - Score: 8
