Bottle from Isetan. Orange-amber pour, hazy, with a tall, bubbly head. Piney, citrus nose, with some rich malts almost like a bock. A bit pissy as well. Piny hops, big time pine, resinous. Some grass, a bit of citrus. Mostly pine resins. A bit of caramel malt, something like Munich. Too much pine. Medium body, a bit lazy. Overall not bad, but not at all interesting and they do much better usually.

Hop Relax IPA 6% I saw this bottle at Kyoto Isetan and picked it up. Once home, a little more research told me it was a Mitsukoshi Isetan Exclusive made for a Tokyo Feel the Craft beer event in early September. 500 yen a bottle wasn’t breaking the bank so I picked it up. A dull brass colored poured with a thick foamy light beige head. The aroma is malty sweet with earthy pine bark, sweet tarts, citrus and biscuits. Malt forward and a bit odd. The taste is like a ramped up earthy UK style IPA - earthy hoppiness, biscuity malts and a sweet finish while the aftertaste is white peppery bitterness. An interesting beer but it seems to have too many different things going on so it doesn’t really come together in my opinion. Worth a try though.
