Our flagship beer, and biggest seller, Pot Kettle Black is one of New Zealand’s most widely awarded beers. PKB, as it is affectionately known, is a juxtaposition of beer styles: fresh and hoppy, yet as dark as night and malty rich. The black beer that has converted many a person who’d formerly professed a fear of dark ales… and called a "real foodie beer" by every chef we meet!

Bottle drank at Hill Farmstead while waiting for the Harvest Festival VIP session to begin, Vermont. Pours rich black with a big, staying tan cream head. Dusty cocoa nose, light roast, wet dirt (i.e. mud...). Medium sweet flavor, lots of dirty roast, earthy bitterness, light ash, a bit of moderate dark chocolate. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Medium sweet finish with dry roast, good ash, light baking cocoa, earth. A slow starter, but quite robust and nuanced by the end.

Bottle. A dark brown one, clear, and with a dark beige head. Roasted, chocolatey aroma with some coffee and sweetish notes. Caramel hints. Full-bodied, soft and semi-sweet. Chocolate, coffee, caramel and roasted malts in the flavor, along with a pleasant hoppy bitterness. Lasting roasted, caramel finish with a decent bitterness. A tasteful and moreish beer I’d like to have again. 120623

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours very dark brown with a 4 finger creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate and burnt malt. Hop? Maybe. Near full bodied. Flavor is chocolate and burnt malt with some floral and citrus hop. It’s very smooth and rich. Reasonably bitter. Finishes sweet chocolate, but bitter. Just noticed that the head has accomplished some incredible ring lacing. Very pleasant. Burnt malt stout aspects, but fresh and hoppy like an IPA.
