Our flagship beer, and biggest seller, Pot Kettle Black is one of New Zealand’s most widely awarded beers. PKB, as it is affectionately known, is a juxtaposition of beer styles: fresh and hoppy, yet as dark as night and malty rich. The black beer that has converted many a person who’d formerly professed a fear of dark ales… and called a "real foodie beer" by every chef we meet!

The aroma has an intoxicating blend of chocolate, coffee, cherry, spice and even a little brine. The first taste is brilliant as the palate comes across all creamy until it suddenly dissipates alarmingly. The chocolate malt gives way to citrus and salty brine. Bit of an odd one that reminds me of the Bellarine Mussel Stout.

Presented as a Black IPA but I wouldn’t really agree with that. Dark brown. Aroma is toasty with roast and slight earthiness. Lightly toasty, chocolatey charctaer. More like a porter.

(Bottle) Opaque black with thin tan head. Fantastic and unusual aroma combining fresh fruity hop notes with richer notes of caramel, chocolate and almost smokiness. Medium body with nice carbonation giving velvety feel. Great and unusual flavour showing again a mix of styles which works pretty well. The start is rich dark roast malts with dark chocolate notes and this gives way to the thinner somewhat sharper flavours of a porter, out of which develops a refreshing hoppy bitterness which combines with dark roast malt bitter coffee notes for a long pleasant finish. An unusual beer that works very well.

330ml bottle [Thanx David]. Pitch black colour with average, frothy, lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Intense chocolate aroma with a plethora of yeast flavours. Taste is dark malty with a mixture of chocolate notes, yeast, orange zest and juniper; more or less clean and explicit chocolate notes in the finish; lively carbonation.

12oz bottle pours deep amber with a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malt infused plums and then roasted malts, toasted bread and a grainy malt quality. The taste is pretty darn sweet with malts and molasses and then moving into roasted malts and toasted breadiness. All in all a tasty offering.
