Our flagship beer, and biggest seller, Pot Kettle Black is one of New Zealand’s most widely awarded beers. PKB, as it is affectionately known, is a juxtaposition of beer styles: fresh and hoppy, yet as dark as night and malty rich. The black beer that has converted many a person who’d formerly professed a fear of dark ales… and called a "real foodie beer" by every chef we meet!

(can, 33cl) Almost black colour with a beige and firm mid-sized foamy head. Mildly roasted and slightly earthy malty aroma with hints of dark chocolate, coffee, as well as present piney, herbal-spicy and subtle fruity hops. Moderately bitter and delicately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Mildly earthy dark and slightly roasted malt character with notes of chocolate, coffee, backed by drying herbal and piney hops, lingering into the moderately hop- and roast-bitter finish with a whiff of acidity. Solid. 30.VI.17

Can - Fresh hoppy and dark roast. Jet brown with a rich light brown head. Hoppy and a nice roasty note. Not quite a black IPA, but something different and good.

2016 catch up - Bottle at home from M&S - This was definitely a porter IPA and I am not sure if I particularly liked it. The porter flavour overwhelmed the hops and I didn’t think it was particularly great.

Can. Appearance- very dark, just about black, a small beige foamy head, not much light escaping. Aroma- coffee, milk chocolate, roast dark malt, vanilla, caramel, chocolate biscuit. Taste- creamy malt, bitter roast, biscuity caramel malt, hop undertones, coffee. Fluffy mouthfeel, lingering bitterness in the finish.

Small sample from tap @ In De Wildeman, thanks Jelle! Dark, almost black color. Light brown head. Aroma’s: grassy hops, resinous, wth some drop/licorice retronasal. Flavor is moderate bitter with light hoppy sourness. Light to medium bodied. Moderate bitter finish. Wouldn’t mind a full pour.
