Bottle from Asahiya. Medium copper-brown with low head. Nose is grass, earthy caramel malt. Carbonation is a bit too high for a style one would usually enjoy as real ale. Body a bit light. Balanced flavor of light caramel and grass. Drinkable and easy.

Bomber pours clear deep gold with weak off white head. The aroma has some sweet hard candy citrus notes along with some mild spicy hops. Overall the aroma is on the mild side. The taste is similar with muted or blunted citrus hop notes that seem like sweet hard candy. Those notes are followed by mild spicy hops and some earthy hops. Underneath everything are snippets of acidic citrus and sugary malts that are at odds with each other. Decent brew.

Recently released bottle labeled Moylan’s Extra Special Bitter Ale (5%). Probably should be listed as an ESB instead of an EPA, but whatever. Pours with a mostly clear (some light haze) golden body. A small, slightly creamy and lasting white head. Great lace and retention. Aromas are malty, bready, grainy and cracker on the initial aroma. Also a bit too much of a hop showing for the style (tea, citrus, grassy and herbal components). Medium fruity esters (although medium to light for an ESB). Some chai tea notes. Flavors are estery, tea like, and malty. Bready, crackers, caramel and biscuit. Light esters. Hops are herbal, citrus, tea. Smooth, with a very neutral balance. Bitterness might be a bit light. No alcohol. Malty and light yuzu citrus finish. Creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied, light residual sweetness with medium carbonation. Easy drinking at the expense of possibly being a bit bland. Strong tea flavors throughout. I also might add, this seems to be great value at $3.99 a bomber!

On nitro tap at St. Augustine's, pours a pretty clear dark golden with a nitrogenous off-white head. Aroma of typical NO2 mixed with bitter-style hops, quite intense bitterness. Flavour of smooth English-style hops and buttery caramel malt backing.

A very light mixed aroma of malt and hop. Darkish amber color with white head that laces a bit. Smooth and creamy start of decent but not overly strong hop. Some malt does arrive for the finish. Served at a reasonable temperature; close your eyes and you’re in England. Another great Moylan’s product.

Amer ale with a thine white head. Light caramel malt aroma without much hops. Sweet malt in mouth, with unbalanced harsh hops. Overall, an unpleasant ESB. Russian River Beer Revival & Barbecue Cook-Off, August 20, 2005.
