Barbados 2000 is a unique barley wine aged in rum barrels for 21 months. One of four limited editions, each with it’s own distinct character. A collaboration between Dugges and Svenska Eldvatten.

This beer, as its three siblings, is the result of a happy accident. In 2013 we we're at a beverage festival. Talking to everyone, as you do, we started talking to the guys at Svenska Eldvatten. They we're very excited about their latest project. They'd gotten hold of a few single barrel rum barrels and had just bottled the content. Amazing West Indies rum. The lightbulb over our heads lit and we asked them what they we're going to to with the barrels. Because, we wanted to fill them with beer! We wanted to fill the barrels with something that could really carry the different rum characters so the choice to fill them with a potent English barley wine was easy. The barrel Barbados 2000 has been lying on used to contain rum distilled at West India Rum Distilleries, Barbados, in June of 2000. The barrel had the number #36.

Bright clear amber beer, good bubbly pale cream colour head. Some weird and decidedly off spirity off notes assault the nostrils. Palate is light, fairly dry and has modest fine carbonation. The spirity weirdness carries over from the nose. I would guess this a high ester rum and it’s creating havoc with the barrelling. Something resembling malt sweetness underneath. Light finish. There is an occasional glimpse of something normal rum like but as a whole, this doesn’t sit at all comfortably and verges on quite unpleasant.

Bottle from De Caigny, BB 2025-12-29, large sample. Almost clear copper color, short frothy head. Again aroma of paint thinner and nail polish remover, slight raisin, cookie and caramel. Djeez, what a big amount of booze and paint shit. This is even worse than the Jamaica crap. Stop it. This is horrible. How can you make this stuff and even bring out four different editions of utter crap??? OMG. Baddest part is, I bought 3 out of 4 of the series. Absolutely terrible.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours amber with tiny, floating impurities and a small, off-white head. Nose is very distinctly rummy, even slightly charred. Fairly rich body, sweet brown sugars and a distinct rum note that ends rather boozy. But probably the one with the most impact from the rum - of the 4 Dugges versions. 160816
