Pours almost black, brown edge head. Aroma of slightly sour coffee, subtle dark chocolate. Taste is Italian espresso soda with a burnt cocoa edge. Nice.

750 ml cork and caged bottle into tulip glass. Pours extremely dark brown color with a nice 2 finger dense tan head with fantastic retention that reduces to a thick cap that lasts. Nice thick lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of plums, dark fruit skin, molasses, roasted malt, candi sugar, citrus peel, nutmeg, light chocolate, and yeasty spices. Very nice and pleasant aromas with nice balance. More on the interesting side of things as well. Taste of big plum, dark fruit, caramel, toasted malt, chocolate, molasses, citrus, nutmeg, and light yeast spices. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of molasses, dark fruit skins, chocolate, and roasted malt. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very silky, creamy, and smooth mouthfeel that goes down way too easily for being almost 11%. Alcohol is practically invisible with only a slight warming well after the finish. Overall, this is an incredible Belgian strong dark ale. Fantastic balance and dangerously drinkable.

9.1% version from Systembolaget
The color is almost black, with a huge and stiff head. The aroma is very nice, mild, like Christmas cookies; roasted malt, molasses, spices. Good body strength; it has roasted malt and chocolate flavor, with moderate residual sweetness, and light liquorice. Correct bitterness, with spicy chocolate in the end.

Local bottle. Pours with a mahogany hue with a massive off-white head. Aromas of raisins, leather, chocolate, dates, roast, coffee, lightly herbal and medium esters. Flavors are slightly tannic and nutty. Some roast and astringency. Further flavors of brown sugar, bitterness, spice, chocolate. Surprisingly lively carbonation. Lively with medium to high body. My least favorite of the Santas Little helpers. Way too roasty compared to the others. Still pretty decent!

The first Xmas beer this year, and I liked it. Very strong (perhaps could’ve been a bit lighter) and tasted almost like caramel syrup. 0.7 litres of this is quite much, though...

I believe I’ve tasted this in Essen, dec 2010 at the Kerstbierfestival. My notes say only it had a horrible smell, at least to me. Herbs or spices in it, though I don’t remember which. Taste was better, pretty decent. Nice carbo and good body, alcohol not overwhelming.
