This classy beer represents the perfect marriage between the fresh accents and slightly acidic flavour of the black cherries. Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a mixed fermentation beer, with every hectolitre containing up to 13 kilos of fruit! Liefmans Kriek-Brut is a perfect blend of Oud Bruin and pale beer aged on cherries. The beer is matured for 18 months, bringing out the very best of its intense flavour.

Fin fruktig duft av kirsebær. Mørk dunkel rødbrun farge. Tynt lag skum, ring langs kant. Nydelig fruktig smak av Kirsebær, noe syrlig ettersmak.

Draught @ Duvelorium, Brugge. Pours slightly hazy rich ruby with small off-white head. Slightly dusty aroma with notes of cherries and yeast. Vinous flavour of cherries, with dusty and malty notes and bitter, hoppy touches. Sweetish and vinous aftertaste. Good.

Bottle courtesy of Deanso. Poured a hazy reddish brown with a thin frothy off white head. The aroma is tart cherry, light yeast. the flavour is moderate sweet with a big zesty cherry fruit palate. Medium boded with average carbonation. A real sweety... just like me :-)

The classic Liefmans Kriekbier in its new, refreshed appearance, but basically still the same beer Liefmans has been making for a long time. Stable, dirty pinkish, moussy head, staying closed for a long time; colour a deep burgundy, hazy. Rich, complex and abundantly fruity aroma of clearly fresh cherries with a hint of cherry stones, draped nicely over the basic beer, which otherwise reveals dried banana, passion fruit, vanilla, fruit yoghurt, walnuts, orange zest, tea leaves, old madera and apple. The first sip overthrows you with a truckload of fresh cherries, with lots of lively fruit acidity, blending into a more sedate lactic acidity of sour cream and yoghurt from the basic beer (or should I say beers, as this is a blend of different ages), which then comes to full glory offering its natural fruitiness of passion fruit and apple, medium carbonation, woody touches and an ’old’, port- or madera-like generosity in the finish, vinous with a slight bitterness that could perhaps come from the cherry stones. Wonderfully complex as it once was, thank the Duvel for saving this from oblivion. Though still sweetened, like it was before Moortgat took over, it does not become too sugary and the sourishness makes for a dry, satisfying, thirst-quenching end. Still one of Belgium’s great fruit beers.

Bottle @ White Horse, Parsons Green. Pours deep red, sweet cherry boiled sweets with a sour aftertaste. Tart & sweet, with an artificial cherry flavour. Not my favourite Kriek i have to say.

Dark red/brown colour, white foam. Sweet aroma of cherries, some vinegar, brown sugar and candy. Sweet/sour taste, very light bitterness. Should be very good if this wasn’t too sweet.
