The Chimay Red is the oldest of the Chimays. Its coppery color and sweet, fruity taste make it a particularly tasty dark ale.

Bottle 12/2021. Aroma of caramel, raisins, prunes, hard candies, rhum, molasses, spices, peach, dried dark fruits, some chocolate hints. Very sweet, intensive and pleasant. Taste of dark sugar, molasses, rhum, toffee, raisins, prunes, dark fruits, cocoa. Medium sweet. Medium carbonation, low bitterness. Very interesting one.

Chestnut, slightly murky with a stable white head - very nice. Aromas of malt, yeast, a hint of pepper. The taste is raisins, dried fruit, malt, even a hint of rum. Very nice.

Bottle. Brown pour with a large foamy beige head that has good retention. The aroma is mild with malts, peppery spices and Belgian yeasts. The taste is rock candy, raisins and dates. The palate is full and the carbonations soft. Finishes long and semi-sweet. Overall: Decent-Its been a long time since I last had this. Paired well with a north sea cheese.

Sample pour at Max's Belgian Fest 2024. Pours a clear amber with a big cap of white head. Malt and candy on the nose, raisin and caramel. Flavor is raisin bread and treacle. Creamy finish.
