This Intergalactical Imperial lager was brewed by Ben (Bridge Road Brewers, 50 Ford Street, Beechworth VIC 3747, Australia) & Urbain @ Struise, as a superb collaborative effort between both breweries and Simply Hops (Hop Pocket Lane, Paddock Wood, Tonbridge, Kent, TN12 6DQ, UK). While Ben shared his Australian Lager brewing techniques, Simply Hops procured us with Fresh Galaxy hop flowers.
Only 4 ingredients were used, Vleteren water, German pilsner malt, Australian Galaxy Hops and Weihenstephan yeast. This lager not only bottom fermented, but also matured on its own bed of C02 for six months.

New rating: Bottle 2013. Golden colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of sweet brewery malts. Later it gets floral and has more candy sweetness. Like this it's great. Old rating 2.2: Tap at school. Pale yellow colour. Bit of a funny smell. Farmyard? Manure? Hair removing cream? It comes through in the flavour too. Whatever it is it’s a prominent background taste. Not sure this one was ok....

Bottle, 75cl, thx to clubgonzo. It pours a lightly unclear, golden colored body topped by a dense, off-white head. The aroma is lightly Belgian in style, fruity and with some white sugar and a touch of the yeast. Some herbal, grassy hints too. It’s lightly bitter on the palate, dry and full-bodied with a nice carbonation level. Fresh fruits, white sugar, herbal hops and a hint of Belgian yeast in the flavor, the bitterness lasting for a good while. Nothing extraordinary going on here, but it’s a fine brew indeed. 140905

Very cloudy bright orange. Nose is decent. Sesame seed and walnut and a very light hop aroma. Taste is far more hoppy. Pine and resinous oils with a touch of more nuts like pistachio and walnut.

Sample at SBWF 2014. Golden with a white head. Aroma and taste of floral hops, citrus, grass, bread and some malt. The body was medium and the finish quite bitter. A descent one.

Slightly hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of hops, quite sweet, resin, light liquorice, light fruity. Bitter hoppy flavour, light malts. Bitter finish, malts. Amazing for a lager style beer, very nicely done.

Bottle shared at the Pre-Borefts Tasting. Pours clear dark golden with an off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, grass and fruits. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Draft at Churchkey, 7/12/14. Aroma of herbal hops and pale malt. The taste is intense grassy hops, pale buttery malt, mild fusel alcohols. Thin-medium bodied, slight lingering bitterness.

Strong ’IPL’ with thin, off-white, breaking foam and warm ’old gold’ colour, clear but lightly hazy with deposit. Pleasant aroma of fresh orange peel, dry white wine, field flowers, gin, mango, some sweaty grains. Dryish, lightly sweetish malt fruity onset, refreshing orange peel effect and early hop bitterishness increasing towards the finish but nevertheless remaining more aromatic than deeply bitter; a supple, lightly caramelly malt sweetishness supports this perfectly and the alcohol, though noticeable as a gently warming gin-like presence after swallowing, remains a lot more hidden than usual in a 8.5% lager. Interesting!
