Can - turbid gold with a frothy, fairly thick head - nose of honey, melon, sweet citrus, moderate ginger, a touch of white pepper, and even some mild notes remeniscent of cloves - soft texture - medium sweet, but with a balancing bitterness and moderate touches of spicy ginger - earthy wheat - some crusty, dry maltiness finishes, with some peppery character, fresh citrus, and melon rind - an interesting take on the style.

The appearance had a hazy yellow kinda golden colored body with a one finger white foamy head that dies to a film within about thirty seconds, clingy foamy rings form around the pint glass.
The smell opened up with a yeastiness of sorts and then pop! all of a sudden there’s the spicy elements of ginger and black pepper, some oranges and lemons start to come through and combine pretty nicely.
The taste takes the previously mentioned aromas and adds a bitter aspect to it, spicy yeasty aftertaste, dry and somewhat citrusy crisp finish.
On the palate, it sat about a light to medium, somewhat sessionable. Carbonation is good for the Witbier style as there’s an ample amount of harshness but not too much, could also fit a saison for the peppery notes coming through on the tongue and mouth.
Overall, witbier or saison, I like it and don’t care how its labeled, well worth to have again and worthy of having it with its recommended food.

Can from BottleSelect.com. Pours hazy gold with a large foamy white head. Aroma seems a mix of fruit and ginger. Near med body. Flavor is a little malty, some fruit and citrus, and a slight touch of gingeriness. It’s quite different from a typical wit.

Nose is Witbier-tyical, probably a bit smoother. The beer starts not as a typical Witbier - at the first sip you notice that there is something different - no orange peel or coriander. But that it is lemon grass and ginger is hard to taste. Probably the sharpness of the ginger in the background and the freshness of the lemon grass in the beginning - but all only ver subtle. The mainpart is a bit unround, sharp. And there is (for me) the round freshness of the "normal" Witbier missing. The aftertaste is a bit pale, on the one hand Witbier-typical sharp and dry, on the one hand little hot due to the ginger. This aroma lasts on the tongue very long.
Interesting brew, but I like the "normal" Witbier better, as it is for me more round and has a bit more deepness in aroma. --> 10/12/9/10

Trübes goldgelbes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch hefig, Lemon, Gewürze. Geschmack nach belgischer Hefe, Koriander, Citrus.

Can at home from cotteridge wines. Aroma is bready wheat malt with a slightly stale edge and delicate orange, citrus and floral. Later some soapy notes develop. . Golden colour with a lasting thin white head. Light haze. Flavour is bready malt, crisp mineral, some sweet midget gems and lemon in the finish. Medium light body with a crisp finish. Decent.

Can shared by Mike Cloudy straw color, light honey and lots of spice. Light clove orange and pepper. Nice brew.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can poured into a weizen glass. Pours hazy golden with medium white head. Thick big bubble lacing, well carbonated, nice ginger aroma. Taste is orange, some lemon, and ginger. The ginger is different.

I decided to save my Surly for later so I am opening a can of Westbrook White Thai picked up for 31DKK (550 yen) at Mikkeller & Friends. 5% I don’t know anything about this brewery but the price was right & it is an ale brewed with fresh lemongrass, ginger root & Sorachi Ace, inspired by SE Asian food. Great honey gold pour. It has a nice fruity aroma with a touch of lemon & ginger. What a nice easy drinking light beer, zesty fruit I get peach, lemon, then some ginger & spice notes with a dry finish. A really nice surprise, good stuff at a nice price.
