Handle in Robbie’s bar, Hanmer Springs. Mild milk chocolate nose. Dark red/brown beer with thin collar of suds. Light body, little fizzy notes. Distant malt background with tinny notes at the end. Certainly easy-drinking but instantly forgotten.

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, mahogany colour with a beige and short foamy head. Slightly sugary, earthy and mildly roasted malty aroma with hints of chocolate, traces of dried fruits and wax. Sweet flavour, light bodied with a soft carbonation. Dark and slim, slightly roasted malty base with notes of chocolate and subtle fruity flavours; almost watery and slightly roast-malty finish. Not overly entertaining. 22.VIII.14

330ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, dark brown colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Dark malty aroma has fruity hints of plum, black cherries, dark berries, cautious hints of chocolate, blunt remnants of their grainy origin. Taste is initially dry, roasty dark malty, minimally fruity and metallic, the middle part is characterised by a waxing and waning, slightly artificial, moderately sweet milk chocolate note, the finish is again more fruity, minimally metallic, cautious hints of plum and dark berries. Quite flavourful for its 4% abv, but still rather light for a full-blown Porter.

(On tap) Clear, dark brown with an orange hue and a creamy, beige head leaving neat curtains of lacework. Lightly roasted malt aroma. Medium in body with sweet, roasted malts and lightly burned caramel. The finish has a faint hint of burned malt. A very light Porter. Tui calls this a "West Indian Pale Ale" as opposed to Tui itself being an "East Indian Pale Ale". It’s all bullshit of course. 160208
