Colossal Double IPA
Maximus is our Colossal take on a Double IPA. 9% ABV. Full of Simcoe and Cascade hops balanced against tons of rich malted barley—a bed of smooth malted wheat, biscuity Munich malt, and English Crystal. Maximus’ massive dry-hop bill entertains with spice, floral and berry notes … For the hop heads!

Refrigerated 12 oz. squat bottle poured into s a snifter. Clear Amber with small off-white head. Aroma is light herbal hops and malt backbone, medium/thick body, low carbonation, and some small-bubble lacing. Taste is bitter hops and strong malt backbone. Lots of flavor, but not that hoppy.

Vraiment très bonne quoique un peu terne visuellement... Les houblons sont bien dosés et l’alcool ne prend pas toute la place comme plusieurs comparables. Un beau cadeau de la part d’un collègue ;-)

Keg at Drygate. Clear amber beer with a thin head. Dry, sour fruit aroma. Flavour is crisp refreshing fruit, a slightly sour grapefruit hint, with bitter hop cutting through it perfectly to stop it being sickly. Leaves an almost too-sweet aftertaste but again, it’s just right with a certain tartness there. Tremendous beer.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges .Aroma has pine hops with a bit of citrus bitterness and some light grains backing. Flavor has bitter citrus up front with growing pine and resin and a sweet grain backbone.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 14C). Bottle 35 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: intense and nice hop aroma with mild notes of grapefruit with a pine and resinous character. sweet malty background provides a good support. APPEARANCE: gold ambar color and slightly hazy. medium ivory head with good retention. TASTE: balanced malty sweet flavour, with hop notes (grapefruit, pine, resin). high bitterness that lingers well beyond a semi-dry finish. PALATE: medium body with moderate carbonation. no astringency. mild alcohol warming. OVERALL: a very good example of an Imperial IPA. Recommended.

Aug ’14. A 0.355 l bottle from some Systembolaget in or around Stockholm. It poured clear amber body with medium sized head. Strong citrus, herbal, spicy and other hop aromas were balanced with typical IPA biscuit malt. Quite bitter flavor, various hop bitterness, too, also rounded with biscuit and fine jaffa cakes malt. Needs some time to open up its complexity and to be enjoyed. Hop notes are really divergent, from typical citrus, herbal, pine, to some weird soapy (not bad somehow) bitterness. Fuller in body, only lightly bitter finish, more of the malt now overtakes for longer aftertaste and fuller enjoyment. Excellent!

35cl Bottle from Craft&Draft. Clear Amber/orange colour, white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, resin, some tropical fruits, light citrus. Not nearly as hoppy as I hoped. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, caramel, resin, grass, citrus, light fruity, decent bitter finish. Medium bodied. Lacks a whole lot of hops, guess they got killed on the way over to NL. BB 12-2015.

Very citrusy in the beginning - huge overall hops infusion. Does pretty well on the malt backbone as well though. Pours dark amber with good head and lacing. Medium bitter finish. This would be very nice if super fresh. Some peel. Bottle.
