Colossal Double IPA
Maximus is our Colossal take on a Double IPA. 9% ABV. Full of Simcoe and Cascade hops balanced against tons of rich malted barley—a bed of smooth malted wheat, biscuity Munich malt, and English Crystal. Maximus’ massive dry-hop bill entertains with spice, floral and berry notes … For the hop heads!

Bottle. Creamy foam. Hoppy aroma, citrus, fruit, slightly floral, not bad. Taste: quite juicy, citrus and fruit, white port wine, good hop bitterness.

Pours nice golden, even a bit of amber Quite clear and not very carbonated - nor with its of foam. Aroma is nicely hoppy, some clean sugar feel to it, not stuffy but dry and slightly grassy. Well balanced, feels like a quite light beer to drink although it has some abv packed away. Tastes dry, balanced between sweet medium body and lots of hop bitterness. At the same time hops are not too bitter, not astringent but just about right. Quite nice one, feels as Lagunitas should feel like.

Tap at the Ørsted Ølbar, Copenhagen. Poured a clear medium amber with a frothy white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is malt, tropical fruit, some alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet light bitter with a smooth rich fruity alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Nice and fruity with well hidden alcohol.

Bottle from systembolaget. An awesome double IPA. Powerful, full of flavour, bitterness verging on aggressive but remaining intact with the drink and a fibrous golden colour. Yum. (24/2/17) Bottle from Jane Doe, Östersund. Not as miraculous but definitely one that grows on you over the time. Very bitter. 4.1 ti 3.7.

From a 355ml bottle on 14/2/2017. Pours a clear medium golden with a small head. The nose is very malt with lots of caramel and some resiny hops. Flavour wise, it’s sweet and malty up front - more caramel, some toffee, and bread. The hops are firm, with lots of resin and pine, providing nice balance, and there’s the barest hint of booze at the back. The texture is a bit syrupy and the carbonation is soft. Very enjoyable indeed.
