Colossal Double IPA
Maximus is our Colossal take on a Double IPA. 9% ABV. Full of Simcoe and Cascade hops balanced against tons of rich malted barley—a bed of smooth malted wheat, biscuity Munich malt, and English Crystal. Maximus’ massive dry-hop bill entertains with spice, floral and berry notes … For the hop heads!

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with large foamy off-white head, very faint citrus aroma, low carbonation, initially sweet taste followed by medium hoppy bitterness, thin body, long sticky sweet finish with residual bitterness. A bit too sweet.

Bottle, 355 ml from Beergium. Shared with JFK10000. Pours clear orange with medium off-white head. Hoppy, citrus, grassy, malty, sweet, moderate bitterness in finish. Medium bodied. Guess not the freshest one since I expected more hops.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass. Appearance is clear, golden/light copper with trace sparkle, finger-width foamy white head with fair retention and nice sudsy lacing. Aroma is fruit, resin, citrus, pine. Taste is sweet tropical fruit with dank, bitter resin, citrus and pine at the ending. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, foamy texture, average-to-lively carbonation and mix of sweet fruity and mild bitter finish. Overall, this scores high across the board with decent complexity. Weirdly thin palate for an imperial IPA but equally weirdly it kinda works.

0.355l bottle. Clear orange body, white head. Aroma and taste of biscuit, toffee, toast, pine, berries, citruses and a hint of roast. Sweet upfront but has a nice hop bitterness in the end. Not a westcoast style hop bomb, but I like it.

6-pack from the LCBO. Pours a clean amber colour with a big warm cap, great retention and creamy-foamy lacing. Grassy hop aromas with citrus over caramel malts. Sweet malty taste with lots of herbal notes. This Imperial IPA goes down nicely, but it is a little rich in the middle. Thankfully, the finish is lightly dry and helps this.
