This full-bodied dry stout bottled in County Carlow, south-west of Dublin is based on an authentic recipe first introduced around 1740. Its taste was said to make grown men weep for more! Its unique blend of roasted malts, grains and bitter hops ensures a deliciously balanced and smooth flavor.

500ml bottle between three on an Irish tasting evening at home on 11th Nov 2016. This is a lovely, easy drinking Stout. It looks a looks and tastes the part: deep darkest brown with a full tan coloured head. A dry, slightly burnt maltiness in the flavour with a mild bitterness from those same malts and hops. I really enjoyed this.

Bottle from M&S Lincoln. Black colour with a tan head. Roasted malty and slight toffee aroma and taste. Smooth thick creamy body.

Bottle. Clear ruby/brown body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of sawdust, burnt toast and ash. Flavour of chocolate, wood and a sharp (not unpleasant) metallic finish. Thin body with a smooth texture. Light fizz. Smells of burnt malts and itโs very thin.

F: beige, thin, quick gone. C: dark with reddish hue, clear, almost non-transparent. A: roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, hint of caramel, smoked. T: good dry bitterness on the palate, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dry bitter hops, hint of citrus, medium body, average carbonated, 0,5l bottle, very good supermarket version dry stout beer.

Bottle. Pours near black with a medium tan head. Aroma of roast, light coffee and dark chocolate. Flavour is light moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

500ml bottle from M&S the gyle, Edinburgh. Pours black, thin beige head. Aromas of light coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is mineral, chocolate, coffee. Quite fruity at the end, but a bit thin. Ok.

Opaque almost black, redbrown hue against the light, big frothy tan head, mostly lasting, good lacing. Aroma sweet and roasty malts, cocoa, dark chocolate, brown sugar, coffee, hint of citrus. Taste light sweet and moderate bitter, roasty notes. Medium body, oily bit watery texture, soft carbonation, mild bittersweet finish, light spicy notes.

Bottle at M&S. Aroma mostly roasty, suggests dryness. Lightly soapy. Clear very dark colour, beige head. Taste is fairly dry, particularly towards the finish. Simple one-dimensional roasty flavour, might even be too strong for me, lightly burnt. However overall a decent irish stout.
