This full-bodied dry stout bottled in County Carlow, south-west of Dublin is based on an authentic recipe first introduced around 1740. Its taste was said to make grown men weep for more! Its unique blend of roasted malts, grains and bitter hops ensures a deliciously balanced and smooth flavor.

500ml bottle bought at the M&S store near to the train station in Leeds. Fragile lacing from a tan-coloured head. Dark brown body. Promising smell of dark chocolate malts with a slight roastiness. Sweet malty taste of chocolate and roasted coffee. Bittersweet end. Pleasant enough (Bodington Flats, 10.07.2012).

[500ml bottle from M&S Reading] Black with a moderate tan head. Chocolate & coffee at first, with a smooth mouthfeel and growing amounts of liquorice. The whole thing is rather taken over by charcoal in the bitter, dry, burnt malt finish. Too burnt for me, Iโm afraid.

Bottle. Black with a tan head. Burnt malt dominates the aroma and taste leading to a sharp bitterness in the finish. Lack a bit of creaminess.

Bottle from M&S (of course!) Black, ruby edges, thick tan head with reasonable lacing.
Aroma of chocolate, molasses, coffee, roasted malt.
Taste of roasted malts, fruity berries, burnt crust, charred wood.
Palate - soft carb, medium body, silky smooth.
Finish - flavours expand greatly throughout the mouth - roasted malt, fruity, burnt notes and a dry woody bitterness that lingers but this tails off leaving a clean palate.
Overall - This well made stout has an impressive rich finish that overshadows the main flavour
