Black Magic Woman is a Stout.

Black Magic Woman is our interpretation of a unique stout with peat-smoked malt. This is a real “man’s beer”, with a lot of everything. It is brewed with roasted barley malts, birch-smoked malt, peat-smoked malt, caramel malts and ale malt. It is well-hopped in order to balance the hearty malt profile. Black Magic Woman is an excellent accompaniment to desserts, dark chocolate, strong cheeses. It is also allowed to drink it on its own, while relaxing in a good armchair watching a football match.

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, impressive brown head. The aroma has strong notes of peat smoked and birch smoked malts (which indeed are essential ingredients in this beer), also notes of tar, old rope and coffee, hints of dark chocolate. The flavour has loads of smoke, tar and sweet malts, caramel, roasted notes with coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Roasty and hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. A solid imperial stout.

Bottle. A very smoke dominated beer. Can’t find much else in either the aroma or taste. The end result is an average rauchbier in my opinion.

courtesy of weekly tasting group. pours black, mocha head with light golden lacing. aroma, light smoke, peat elements, roasted malts and coffee. flavors, peat / char and mild smoked malts and complement the beer nicely, not overdone. The chocolate malts also add a nice touch along with a clear roasted malt finish. Palate is boozy with a nice warming abv, char is present through every sip, gets more interesting as the beer warmed up along with some lingering dark fruits.

This beer pours deep dark with dark tan head. The aroma is rich with molasses, spices, chocolate, modest smoke and some spicy wood tar. The taste is smooth and rich with molasses, dark roasted malts and some modest rauchy smokiness. By midway and into the finish it picks up additional notes of sweet caramel candy and burnt malts. Yum!

7th May 2010. Copenhagen Beer Festival. Opaque black stout. Short lived chocolate coloured head. Light soft dry palate. Lactose sweet dark malt. A little peatiness and unsweet dark chocolate. A trace of coffee and some minerals. Really light and easy drinking for it’s abv.
