Black Magic Woman is a Stout.

Black Magic Woman is our interpretation of a unique stout with peat-smoked malt. This is a real “man’s beer”, with a lot of everything. It is brewed with roasted barley malts, birch-smoked malt, peat-smoked malt, caramel malts and ale malt. It is well-hopped in order to balance the hearty malt profile. Black Magic Woman is an excellent accompaniment to desserts, dark chocolate, strong cheeses. It is also allowed to drink it on its own, while relaxing in a good armchair watching a football match.

500mL bottle at Le Cheval Blanc, pours pitch black with a few bubbles of brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, dark roasted malts and some liqueur - very dense. Flavour is very dark roasted malt that dominates, some bittersweet dark cocoa and a touch of brandied liqueur. Dark roast finish with loads of depth. Very deep and full-bodied. Certainly an excellent impie here.

50 cl. bottle poured in to a snifter. Pitch black with a lasting, small tan head. The aroma has roasted malts, salt, liquorice, smoke, hops and a hint of tobacco. Powerful, roasted bitter taste with notes of peat, smoked bacon, coffee. Full bodied with a thick texture. Long lasting, bitter finish, with roasted malts, chocolate and light notes of peat. A very nice imp. stout from Hornbeer.

Bottle @ René’s house. Thanks! Black appearance with a dark brown appearance. Rich anise, dark chocolate, charred, licorice aroma. A little chewy, rich black licorice, smoky, mild chocolate flavor. Pretty tasty.

Riktigt krämig och oljig i sin konsistens, len och god i gommen. Smakrik, balanserad, lagom söt, med smak av choklad, kaffe, fikon och lakrits. Väldigt god, får se vilket betyg som ges efter nästa flaska.

Sampled from a 0.5l bottle @ Beer Enthusiast release party. This one pours a pitch black body with a bubbly dark chocolate head. It has a really peated smoky aroma - almost burned - with chocolate, sweet vanilla, dark espresso, but also a light acidic apply tone as well. Someone mentioned dark almost burned rye bread - he was 100% correct. Nice smoked aroma. Surprisingly and a bit un-natural sweet in the flavor. A bit cloying actually. Reminds me a lot of ashtray heart and black hole. Confusing flavors. Nice roastiness with a good bitterness toward the ending. Could just be I'm in a bad mood or something but this was way to sweet for my buds. Think I have to give it a new go at a later point. 23.04.2012

Bottle sample at Beer Enthusiast release tasting, Bergen. Pours a very black colour with a small light brown head. Looks like espresso. I could not have dreamed of a better aroma where I found leather, tar, strong coffee, dried fruit and a touch of smoke. Smoke is even more evident in the flavour with touch of fire/burnt wood, coffee, bitter chocolate and dark, dark, sweet berries, chocolate truffles and port wine. Oily mouth feel, and light bitterness. A beautiful imperial stout with great balance

5/IV/2012 - 50cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Klaas' place - BB: n/a (2012-334) Thanks to Bene for sharing the beer!

Very dark brown to black beer, big brown head, bit adhesive, pretty stable. Aroma: bit dry and dusty, grassy, little smoke, wood and resin notes, some red fruits, pretty earthy, touch of cleaning products. MF: too much carbon (a shame!) with a medium to full body. Taste: fruity, little sour start, red berries, lots of maple syrup, caramel, brown sugar, hop bitters, fudge. Aftertaste: bit smoky, sweet caramel, sour touch, ripe black fruits, bit woody, mocha, some overripe fruits, pretty bitter ending. Amazing stuff.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large darn brown frothy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with dry notes is OK. Taste is also a mix between some dry roasted malt with light coffee notes and subtle unrefined grain notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I though this was OK but there something in the dry aftertaste (I have a hard time putting my hand on it) that wasn’t too my liking.
