Unique Imperial Stout. Black, intense and komplex. Well-balanced roasted, fruity and liquorice notes with a mild bitterness and a hint of sweetness. Legendary brew from BFM clocking in at 10.276 % vol. With its ebony colour, a dense coffee flavoured foam, the bouquet incorporates hints of liquorice, Bourbon vanilla, and Sarawak pepper. Dry hopping notes and the use of roasted malts are also perceptible. On the palate, it introduces burly and creamy tastes with developing aromas that are slightly sour, but the finish proves to be long with a subtle tartness that grants this revolutionary Cuvee its ungovernable supremacy.

Deep brown coloured body with a slight clear brown on the sides and a thin, large-bubbled light-brown head. Aroma of hops first, malt, alcohol, oak, vanilla and a bit of pit fruits and cherries. Full-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavour with cofffee, rye, chocolate, and a touch of oak. Aftertaste is pleasant and shows some dry hopping, light chocolate, a lot of roasted malt, alcohol and perhaps some tea. Overall, a good and interesting spin (flavours, carbonation, body) of the style - definitely nice to try! I sampled this 33cL swing-top bottle purchased from Drinks of the World in Bern, Switzerland for CHF6,50 sampled a few days later on 10-November-2009.

11.15 oz swingtop bottle, vintage 2010, best before March, 2015. Close to 3 years old, I think. Pours nearly opaque black with red edges and a huge tan head with great retention and decorative lacework. Aroma is really exotic--I get soy sauce, pepper, caramel, dusty basements, citrus (orange peel), oak, brown sugar. Taste is.....nothing like an imperial stout. This is weird! Tastes like a black saison more than anything. It’s lightly sweet and savory with a dry bretty, earthy feel; has a lightly sour finish. I taste tea, honey, pepper. Doesn’t taste "10.276%" ABV (yes, they used 3 digits after the decimal on the label); alcohol is barely noticeable. Carbonation is on the soft side, body medium, mouthfeel a little silky. I really enjoyed this. I don’t understand the low scores on here; too weird and experimental for most, I guess--especially imperial stout purists who went into this thinking they were getting an imperial stout, which this is pretty far from in its traditional definition.

Bottle from Perry’s Liquors, Livermore. It pours cloudy dark brown, with a thin white film. The nose is dark fruit (raisin, currant etc), roasted malt, meat, caramel, touch of spice and coffee. The taste is mostly dark fruit (prune, date, raisin), as well as tanginess, pepper, roasted malt, filter coffee, wood, vanilla, red wine and some astringency, with a long dry-warming finish. Full body and low-moderate carbonation. Decent.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 2011, from Alko Arkadia, 20120310) The beer poured almost black and clear. Its head was medium sized and light brown. Aroma had sourness, ash, liquorice and coffee. Palate was quite full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sourness, burnt malts, ash, sweetness, liquorice, cough mixture and bitterness. Aftertaste was sour, burnt and bitter. Very interesting and different brew. I liked.

Batch 2009, Dec 2014. A colabrown beer with a quite big, dense and light brown head. Aroma is untypical and cherries and red berries are dominant, roastiness, some liquirice; good and interesting aroma with lots of sour ale -like nuancees. Taste is salt liquirice, cherries, mild roastiness and slightly drying ende. Full bodied, slightly sticky, smooth to drink. Very interesting and also very tastefull beer after the first confusion, Imperial Stout meets sour cherries; awaken beer!

Swing top 330 (?) mL bottle, pours dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small beige head. Aroma of sour fruits and roasted malt. Flavour is like a sour stout, with sour fruits, roasted malt and some booze. Subpar / decent.

At ACBF 2011. Very dark brown colour with lasting beige head. Some sour red fruit. Quite sour, pleasant, doesn’t drink 10.5%. Good.

330ml Bottle (Shared by FatPhil) - Dark brown with red tinges and a tan head. Marzipan,cola and some musty hints in the aroma. Fruity,tangy,tart and slightly roasted taste with notes of dried fruit,caramel and raisins. More like a Belgian ale (because of the sour elements) and whilst there’s nothing obvious that’s wrong with it,I was hoping for better.
