Unique Imperial Stout. Black, intense and komplex. Well-balanced roasted, fruity and liquorice notes with a mild bitterness and a hint of sweetness. Legendary brew from BFM clocking in at 10.276 % vol. With its ebony colour, a dense coffee flavoured foam, the bouquet incorporates hints of liquorice, Bourbon vanilla, and Sarawak pepper. Dry hopping notes and the use of roasted malts are also perceptible. On the palate, it introduces burly and creamy tastes with developing aromas that are slightly sour, but the finish proves to be long with a subtle tartness that grants this revolutionary Cuvee its ungovernable supremacy.

Tasted this at Alvinne CBF 2011. Initially thought I wouldn’t like this beer. Tastes a little sour but still pretty nice with good carbonation and body.

Der säuerliche Geruch ist im Antrunk mild wiederzuerkennen, dazu passen die Hefenoten. Das Malz ist hier bereits deutlich vorhanden, gewinnt aber erst zum mittelteil an Intensität und wird auch zunehmend komplexer. Aber selbst im malzintensiven Mittelteil sind die säuerlichen Nuacnen noch erkennbar, freilich neben starken Schokoladen- und röstigen Toffeenoten. Zum Ende, wo der Alkohol spürbar aber nicht störend wirkt, hat das Malz sich dann allerdings die volle Aufmerksamkeit gesichert und überzeugt mit seiner Vielfältigkeit, wobei aber auch seichte Noten wie die Kräuter, die sich aus dem anfänglichen Hefearoma gebildet haben, nicht untergehen. Dazu wird man vom Malz nicht erschlagen. Mal ein andere Imperial Stout, das auf ganzer Linie überzeugen kann! 10/12/12/13/10/12

Interesting sour stout, even if I’m not sure it’s supposed to be sour. Very citric on the nose, with a thick, sweet Stout undertone that is easily overshadowed by the lemon tartness. The taste is immediately sour, surprisingly so, since, again, no info on the bottle if this flavor is appropriate. The sour front fades into a sugary, roasted center with green cherry all around, until it drifts into an unevenly matched finish where the barely discernible notes of tea and pepper are blown away be liquor-fueled sourness. Worth the curiosity factor, but all those fancy adjuncts seem kinda wasted. (3/24/09)

Pours brown with a small head. Aroma has hints of pepper and sour ale. Taste is quite special for an imperial stout. Has hints of pepper and vanilla. A bit sour and bitter finish.

Dark brown to black beer, beige creamy head, stable and adhesive. Aroma: sour, sweet, caramel, fruity, much like a Liefmans Goudenband. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Very well disguised alcohol! Taste: sourish up first, sour berries, followed by mocha, roasted malts. Aftertaste: more sour, nicely balancing the coffee bitter and mocha flavours. Note: had it again in bottled version on 4/V/12, a 2010 vintage. Some smoke was also noticeable as well as some chili in the back of the throat after swallowing.

Bottled from Bierkompass. Black color with small brown head. Aroma, pepper, vanilla, milk chocolate. Taste, cocoa, cardamon, vanilla, nice sweetness with chocolate tones. It ends with raisins in rum. Alcohol is nicely hidden. Nice complex beer.

Bottle. Brownish black beer with a strong light brown head. The aroma is very dry, and the flavour is even more bitter and dry but with a sour finish. Overall a good very strongly dry and bitter beer.

Bottle. So after reading the last few reviews of this, I’m a little worried and a little mad at myself for reaching for a $6 beer while in the shop. Pour is fine enough... kind of a dark brown with a tan head... nothing unexpected. Aromas are decidedly sour... I’m wondering about infection at this point, but the tart cherry edge to them has me wondering whether this will turn out alright... not as a stout, but as a California-style sour. There’s just a bit of a white pepper spiciness to the nose as well. Flavor is a complete disaster. None of the happy tart cherry dreams have come true and it is a dirty dishwater mix of empty tea glasses, sour malt vinegar, brown sugar and just plain yech! Someone help... I’m dizzy and confused and it is hard to find the drain after my second sip. My thoughts on the matter are that if you’re going to ship a beer overseas and charge premium money for it, make sure the damn thing isn’t infected.

Bottled @ Dutch "the Good, the Bad & the Ugly" tasting. Clear redbrown color, medium head. Tart candy aroma, medicinal. Unbalanced sweetness, bit bitter, alcohol. I hope it’s infected, otherwise it’s plain horrible.

33cl Bottle at The Good, The Bad & The Ugly tasting. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma is sour, vinegar, brown sugar, sour dark fruits, paint thinner. Flavour is dark fruits, sour, plastic, alcohol, bitter roast. Medium bodied. Complete (infected?) mess..
