Unique Imperial Stout. Black, intense and komplex. Well-balanced roasted, fruity and liquorice notes with a mild bitterness and a hint of sweetness. Legendary brew from BFM clocking in at 10.276 % vol. With its ebony colour, a dense coffee flavoured foam, the bouquet incorporates hints of liquorice, Bourbon vanilla, and Sarawak pepper. Dry hopping notes and the use of roasted malts are also perceptible. On the palate, it introduces burly and creamy tastes with developing aromas that are slightly sour, but the finish proves to be long with a subtle tartness that grants this revolutionary Cuvee its ungovernable supremacy.

33cl bottle. Interesting name, right of the Jurassian mountain range. Abv on bottle is 10.276% Pours black with beige head. Aroma is yeasty (almost cheese like) and hoppy as well as some good roastiness. Taste is roasted (chocolat/coffee malts), some light bitterness, good floral and spicy presence. Russian tea is characterized by citrus fruit. Alcohol is well present. An interesting brew from a great brewery.

Interesting stout in the English style. Lots of pressure under the swing top, but very little carbonation on the palate. Black with brown sediment. Some lactose flavor, which I don’t care for very much. Also roasted walnuts, chocolate, tobacco, very mild European hops, sugar, honey, and grain. Some citrus in there, as well as oak and sourness. The flavor really opens up as the beer warms. BFM has done better, but this is unusual and good.

330 ml bottle shared with Marcus. Brown/black color with no head. LIght aromas of roasted malt and coffee. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Vinous toasted malt? Very mild pepper which tends to build. Finish is very smooth and tasty.

Brown colour. A little bit of tartness in the nose and some almondy character. Tart, but with some chewiness. Light caramel notes. Really goes nowhere. BFM’s funkadelic style does not lend itself to stouts.

BFM does it again, another fine and unique brew because this in no way an Imperial Stout (just because its black and strong doesn’t cut it). I also had to go to Jersey to pick this up (why the hell is this not in NY yet?). The smell is awesome, funky right off the bat including light rotten fruits and cherry pits. Taste us tuned down a bit and comes off as lightly astringent in its sourness (which is much lighter than the the aroma suggests). The body is very light and highly drinkable (again very much not unlike an Impy Stout). I would never guess this is so strong, alcohol well hidden by the funk.

Unique looking 33cl swing top bottle. Pours a totally opaque black, slightly watery body, with a slim white head that completely faded after a minute. The nose reminds me more of a heavy cabernet than an imperial stout with very peppery aromas, accented with black tea, spice, and slight wheaty malt. Flavor is more fo the same, dark tea, roasted malt, slightly nutty, tobacco, and wood. I’m missing all hop aroma and flavor, which coulc have balanced some of the other stronger flavors (maybes some Northern Brewer?). Finish has some lasting bitterness and a touch of sourness, but very smooth and drinkable. Good but not great, I’ll take an American Imperial over this everyday, but variety is the spice of life.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of roasted malt, which also lends it a slight acidic edge. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, and chocolate.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a big dirty brown color head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some sweet malt. Taste is a mix between some roasted malt with medium bitterness, some notes of liquorice are also noticeable with a nice sweet malt base. Full body with great carbonation and no alcohol was noticeable. Definitely different then most imperial stout around but very satisfying nonetheless.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of Bov. Hazy, dark brown with a tint of red and a dense, retentive, beige head. Interesting, spicy, peppery nose. Rather sweet with burned malt accents and some spiciness. Fairly burned, bitter finish. A very different but also very excellent Imperial Stout. 110108

33 cL bottle. Pours murky dark brown with a little diminished off-white head. Light chemical aroma, roasted malt aroma and slight chocolate note. Flavour is peppery, spiced and quite hardroasted malt base. Finish is solid bitter and roasted malty with a quite strong herbal note.
