Unique Imperial Stout. Black, intense and komplex. Well-balanced roasted, fruity and liquorice notes with a mild bitterness and a hint of sweetness. Legendary brew from BFM clocking in at 10.276 % vol. With its ebony colour, a dense coffee flavoured foam, the bouquet incorporates hints of liquorice, Bourbon vanilla, and Sarawak pepper. Dry hopping notes and the use of roasted malts are also perceptible. On the palate, it introduces burly and creamy tastes with developing aromas that are slightly sour, but the finish proves to be long with a subtle tartness that grants this revolutionary Cuvee its ungovernable supremacy.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit einer beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, schokoladig, rote Beeren. Geschmack röstmalzig, fruchtig, Schokolade, Kaffee, Vaniille, reife Früchte.

Bottle at Marciero. Pitch black and shiny, great head. Fruity nose, some citrus, some Belgian yeast it seems, a bit of tangy funk. Fruity, funky, spicy, bitter ass astringent, coffee, grapes. Spicy and nice.

On tap at BitterCreek Ale house black with no head. Sweet pitted fruit aroma. Sweet dark roast and the tea comes through a bit but not so much the pepper. Interesting. Sock and smooth palate.

Bottle from Embrouille - thank you so much! Batch 2013 - Extreme. Pours cloudy darkish copper brown with airy but stable light beige head. Clear aroma of fruit and hops, with notes of malt and caramel. Sweetish, malty taste, with a good deal of fruity and caramellish notes and a decent load of hops. Warming alcohol presence. Good, bittersweet finish. A very nice beer, indeed, but I find it hard to figure out why it is categorised as Imperial Stout. It has got absolutely nothing to do with it, neither the taste, nor the aroma, not even the appearance. It is like something between a Belgian Strong Ale and a Quadrupel. Very good, but not a Stout, Imperial or not.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton. Opaque dark brown beer with a small pale tan head. Palate is minerally crisp. Flemish red sourness with dark fruits and a little lactose. Light finish. Didn’t pick up the extra additives here.
2014. Vanilla now obvious if still not dominant. Smooth but not smacking anything out of the park.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - this fella I got in the USA. Gusher! Pours clearish brown with a creamy beige head. Nose has dry, tangy dark fruits, dry wood. Medium sweet flavor with more tangy berries, hints of cocoa and roasted malts. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Sweet finish with some pepper, more tangy fruits, berries, mild funk. Not intentionally sour for sure but still pretty tasty and interesting.

On draft at the Rustico Novemberfest 2013. Pours a clear cola brown with a tan head. Toasted malt nose. Flavors of tropical fruit with a smooth finish. Pepper and vanilla are thinly veiled.

Bottle with mR_fr0g at his place on 12 October. Poured a dark ruby colour with a thin beige head. Surprisingly fruity aroma of pineapple and berries with some molasses in the mix. Quite a light mouth feel and flavour considering the style and strength. Dark malts with dried fruits and brown sugar. Finishes with orange peal, cinnamon, yeast and bready malt. Really interesting beer that surprised me on every level. Didn’t look, smell or taste anything like I imagined it would, but was rather nice.

Bottle shared at home. Thanks to Beese Aroma is funky pineapple brett, light caramel roast and liquorice. Opaque black dark caramel pour with a big persistent cream head. Flavour is very mellow roast, light caramel, rasin and dried fruit. There is a really interesting yeat character, slight brett, peppery. Medium body, lively carbonation. Very tasty and interesting. Bit of a surprise this one.

Proletariat, New York tap ($10): Pours dark murky brown with a beige head. Aroma is slightly sour, chocolatey, peppery, tobacco, sort of like a Belgian strong ale. This is a pretty strange imperial stout, and I do not think that I would call it that at all. Bitter and syrupy. Sure this is complex and there was probably a big idea behind this, but the execution was not exactly to my liking.
