12oz bottle label is Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. Aroma is sour red wine, and red wine vinegar, very sour, and pungent, but there is a lingering cherry finish. Flavour is tart, but not too tart, a welcoming sourness, with a nice fruity cherry kick. Not too bad, i’m not big on the style, but this isnt half bad.

Notes from 8/14/2008. Gift from a friend. Yes I like sours, thank you. :) Poured into my Ommegang flute that's just about perfect for everything these days. Thick & heavy two inch French vanilla head. Tipping the glass doesn't change the level on the surface. The color of red oak stain, light takes all angles through but the most direct. Smells of cider vinegar, maple, an honest assumption of potting soil, & a sweet/sour note that comes off a little like a mix between Chinese s&s sauce, & white grapes. Inviting & confusing at the same time. Taste is a flash of syrupy sweet juice followed by a quick pat down with oak. Overripe cantaloupe & sour orange throw into the ring, but overall all the flavors remain pretty level. A little bit of something like sour milk & ash in the finish, but it agrees with me(sort of). Just a little bit of rind bitterness to keep things interesting. A little cookie crust overtakes any remaining sour right at the very end. Carbonation is sitting pretty, & just has that touch about her. Body is thin & juicy, but it spreads itself out too far trying to keep everyone happy. A little brashness is healthy every now & then.

Közepes, tartós hab, vöröses árnyalatú, sötétbarna szín. Édes-savanykás, karamelles, hordós illat. Édes, karamelles, kissé savanykás, cseresznyés, szilvás ízek, nemi hordós, vaníliás aromákkal. Könnyű, közepesen testes, alig keserű. Isteni, mint tesója, a Grand Cru.

2007 bottle. No idea where I got it. But it's a good night to dig into my cellar dwellers and see how they drink. Mindful of possible gushers, I opened it in the sink. But luckily no problems. Still some fizz under the cap. Pours a kind of iced-tea color, with some bubbles on the side and an edge of foam. A light, fruity smell, with just a bit of tartness on the nose. Maybe some brett. Taste is just fine. They may describe as a blend of old and new ales, but this 16-year old bottle is all old by now. Light sourness, notes of cherry and maybe tobacco leaf. Smooth and, let's call it drinkable, because it is. Some burn on my tooth enamel, perhaps. Kind of wish this was a bigger bottle, but I'm glad it's just been waiting for me! A lot of dregs in the bottom of the bottle that I swirled into the end of the glass. This gives me a bit of umami, but no dead yeast taste.
