Bottle @ Sour ale Tasting - DOE Holstebro. Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, citrus - berry sour. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet, moderate acidic - vinegar with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (250308)

25 cL bottle. Medium slow/fast gusher. Pours hazy brown with a light orange hue and a lacing tan head. Light woody acidic aroma with a mild caramel and brown suagr note. Acidic to citric sour taste first. Shows a mild caramel and sugarish note midways and in the far finish. Holds a solid sourness initially and before the finish. Not as smooth as the Duchesse but nicely more dry.

Muddy with medium beige head. Sweet and sour aroma with malty and fruity notes. Sweet falvor with basamic, fruity and sour notes.

Bottle (Monk’s Cafe) from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Pours reddish brown with a medium and fast-disappearing head. Aroma is sour with a hint of wine. Almost like the aroma of a good Viognier. Taste reminds me of mustard. In a good way. Very sour, but not overly so. Not too complex, but pleasant and drinkable.

Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours dirty brown with thin tan head. It has a big fruity aroma with cherries, prunes, sourness, mild wood notes and apple. The taste starts tart and sour to extra sour cherries that slowly move toward funk. At the finish it hits a water point and then goes mildly funky with sour cherries that linger for days.

Bottle as Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. The aroma is not all that sour. There is some sour cherry and arguably wood. The color is hazy dark amber with a white head that escaped immediately. Thinnish body with decent carbonation. The flavor is sourish cherry with a tinge of acidity. Truthfully it’s not all that sour, but it is refreshing. The finish is lightly sour, lightly acidic and pretty dry. Puts a twist on the palate. I strongly recommend it.

...and 1 month on ratebeer. So this should be something a bit different. The most convenient I had at home was this as it would be my first sour ale at all.
0.25 l bottle. Poured clear brownish red body with medium,ebony head. Quite strong vinegar aroma. Very interesting so far. Flavor is nicely sour but without too many other this discernible here... Pleasant finish, not too sour and relatively long. I expected more complex beer, but definitely made me more interested in sour ales.

Bottle. Small, off-white head that diminishes quickly to fizzy pools. Clear reddish-amber body. The aroma is filled with vinegar with notes of caramel, wood and earth. Flavor is mostly tart/sour and lightly sweet. Moderately acidic. Light to medium body with a watery texture and adequate carbonation.

Baby food apple aroma. Brown color, thick tan head, good lacing. Very sour apple taste, approaching vinegar, with cabbage notes. Nothing is left on the palate. It’s a bit like ketchup as it warms, but not necessarily unpleasant. This was my first sour ale.

Wow, I am shocked, this, to me, is as good as the top rated Flanders Reds. Small bottle of Monks Flemish poured into a wine glass. Pours dark red and light brown, very murky beer with lots of sediment and a small head. Aroma is strong, strong, strong acidic sour with fruitiness that is a mix of raspberries and strawberries. wet wood/ moldy basement, and even light spearmint. Some lightly cocoa biscuit maltiness. Taste starts of mild enough with oak but leads to a strawberry speckled mouth-puckering sourness. Leaves the mouth so dry. A medium body with medium carbonation. Also, seems to me like a bargain, picked it up for 3 bucks, much cheaper than a La Folie and just a bit better priced than even a Rodenbach Grand Cru.9/4/8//4/17

Well, another shocker, had it again and it scored much worse. The only difference is I bought this bottle in NY as opposed to Boston. Taste is a bit vinegar strong and very candy-syrup sticky sweet. Nowhere near as sour and almost a totally different beer.8/3/7/3/16.

This beer keeps surprising me because it just is no where as good as it was the first time. I seriously and highly doubt it was inexperience. This was just so amazing the first time but now its just thick sweet balsamic vinegar with a weird sweetness. Just not much complexity to it and it appears filtered/pasteurized. 7/3/7/3/15
