Pours a really clear deep copper color with a huge head that slowly dissipates to a cap but leaves fluffy sticky lace down the sides of the glass. Smell of lactic acid, sweet malts, a bit of lemon, and sour cherries. Taste is sweeter than I expected but has that sour twang about it. More lemons and sour cherries and sweet malts in the taste. Leaves a sweet and sour taste in my mouth, pass the Chinese food. Mouthfeel is syrupy and a bit sticky. Carbonation is on the high side prickling the tongue with every sip. Body is medium. Decent sour ale, but I thought it a bit on the sweet side for the style. Maybe more like a beginners sour ale, but still tasty.

On draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap. Pour is a light clear amber with large white head on top. Aroma is a sour barnyard one. Mostly a sour nose. Flavor is very interesting, very layered. It has a good solid sour note to it, but just as sour as it is there is a syrupy sweet side to it as well, all of which is cherry. Easy finish with a medium body. Makes me want to try more of the style.

Bottle @ Hotelroom, Denver. Pours dark amber with a huge, but fast demising, offwhite head. Aroma of oak, wet leather, cherries, grapefruit, yeast. Taste is cherries, green apples, green grapes, little oak. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nice balanced between sweet / sour, rather easy drinking beer. 050311

Appears like a glass of cola: dark brown clear beer, no head, bubbles attached to the sides of the glass. Aroma: mix of cola and swimming pool (is it chloride?). MF: little carbon, light body, bit watery texture. Taste: cherry sour, some sweet sugar and malts. Aftertaste: sour with chloride. Scores: Ar: 6, Ap: 3, T: 6, P: 3, O 13, Total: 3.1

Bottle of "Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Ale". Clear dark red to ruby coloured beer, beige small head, diminishes to just a thing layer. Aroma: first a hoppy pils aroma, then sour cherries and a cheesy dairy aroma. MF: little carbon, light body, bit watery texture. Taste: sweet fruity, apples, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, it's almost a fruit beer! A little tart, though more lemony than lactic acid. Aftertaste: sweet and sour, fruity again. Not bad, but a bit too sweet if you're used to the Grand Cru's of Flemish Sours.

Originally rated September 2005. Sampled at Bistro L’Autre Oeil in Aylmer, Quebec in good company of S8n, while he was enjoying a St. Ambroise Cream Ale. This one poured a red-brown colour with a fizzy head. It had hardly any retention, but left a rim of lacing where the brew meets the glass. The aroma was of balsamic vinegar, but did not kill the nostril chamber like vinegar does. The taste was sour all of the way and had a very smooth finish. Hardly any aftertaste... maybe a small amount of apples, quite refreshing. After breathing for a while, notes of cherries and apples came out. This brew is light bodied. Feels good after having a few previous Flemish, to finally enjoy one, knowing what to expect from one. Recommended Flemish Sour to start with, not having a crazy taste to it and with barely no aftertaste.

Bottle. Aroma of vinegar, caramel and chocolate. Slightly funky, sour flavor with vingegar and berries. Well balanced but too sweet and not very complex. Good, but a bit one-dimensional and far from the best of this type.

Poured from 11.2 oz bottle. In my never-ending quest to try all styles of beer per this site, I decided to pick this up. Appearance is a very cool and unique strawberry hue with a thin white head. Aroma is like olive oil and stinky cheese, I didn’t expect that at all. Taste is sour with a hint of olive oil and fruit. I think I need to try this again pared with some stinky cheese. *This was written upon first tastes. After finishing, I grew a deep appreciation for it and hope to be drinking again soon.

Bottle: Pours a pure chestnut brown with a large, bubbly khaki head. Sweet aroma is carmalized sugar, vinous, oak, vanilla, and red licorice. Very complex and much more than I feel necessary to pick apart. Not real sour or dry in the mouthful, sort of creamy and lactic. More vinous tones and some cherries. Really drinkable.
