Das IPA ist die Ikone der Craftbier Bewegung und bekommt mit diesem Black Ale ein neues Gewand. Ganz in Schwarz scheint es passend zur dunklen Jahreszeit zu sein. Mit der Hopfensorte Cascade erhält es einen klassisch herben Charakter der sich auf der Zunge entfaltet. Die Kombination aus Caramelmalz und speziellen Röstmalzen verleihen ihm die himmlische Süße im Abgang. Wer es nicht probiert, ist selbst schuld!

[Almost submerged] 330ml bottle [thanks to bartlebier!]. Quasi black colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Slightly herbal-grassy and earthy fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of dark berries, unripe blueberry, black currant, a doughy yeasty touch, ripe and greasy banana, oat flakes, herbal-spicy hints of brine and peppermint bubblegum. Taste is sweet caramel and dark malty, notes of honey and treacle, blueberry sirup, banana, a touch of bramble, minimally grassy hoppy overtones, a touch of peppermint bubblegum; creamy to viscous, syrupy texture. More (untypical) Sweet Stout than Black IPA for me: quite fruity and (dark) malty but in no way hoppy. (Projected) style ignored, not a bad beer.

Flasche 0,33l: Kastanienbraun, kräftige Trübung, feine Perlen, kräftiger fester bräunlicher mittelporiger Schaum; kräftig würzig, kräftige Röstaromen, leichte Rauchnote, Räucherfisch, leichte Süße, Röstmalz, Getreide, Kaffee; im Körper ein sehr süßer Antritt, Malzzucker, dann irritierende Raucharomen, Räucherfisch, dunkle Fruchtigkeit, Backpflaumen, cremig, kräftige Kohlensäure, Röstaromen, später leicht trockene Bitterkeit, Malzzucker bleibt präsent; malzig-süßer Nachgang mit Röstaromen - als Black IPA eine Enttäuschung

Malzig süßer, karamellig zuckriger Antrunk. Noten von Banane, geringe Herbe. Trockener werdend, die geringe Hopfigkeit geht unter. Trinkbar. 10/9/10/9/8/9

33cl bottle from trade with kevnic2008, many thanks! Pours hazy dark orange brown colour with a mid-sized to small beige head. Aroma of dark riped fruits, caramel and yeast. Taste of dark malt, riped red fruits, yeast and banana.

Many thanks to kevnic2008 for this bottle! Smooth malty beginning. A bit sticky sweetish caramel with not too much floral hops. The body is sweetish with a neutral but a bit burned bitterness. Round and sweetish. No typical IPA hops, no floralness. Tastes like a better stout. Sad. The aftertaste is sticky roasted sweetish with not much bitterness. For a Black IPA this is sad.
