"My goodness," muttered Claus, recalling his visit to the Institute, "the restrictive outerwear, the padded room - even padded Christmas tree ornaments. Horrifying ! Yet the little chap seems happier than he's ever been." Claus took a thoughtful sip of a most warming red ale. "Perhaps sanity is over-rated... Ho,ho,ho!"

Fine yellowish head, fast gone over clear darker copper-amber beer. Ureum and alcohol, almonds, cheap brandy, faint hops, wet dog; bit of a jumble. Sweet alcoholic taste, brandy cake with sugar & frangipane dressing, burnt bitter, lots of caramel. Chocolate retronasal. Sharp MF, lots of alcoholwarming, fizzy feeling. Definitely a bit over โ€“ typically extra-strong British ale. It makes me think of a young Hardyโ€™s ale, as from Eldridge Pope, but missing that oneโ€™s complexity. Big thanks to Darren!

Bottle, picked up at Bellingers Jet Garage, Grove Nr Wantage,Oxon, consumed 06-10-08 Pours copper in colour with good white head, I’ve got to be honest it looks bloody good so full marks for that. The aroma is really quite pokey, some sticky candy sugar and dessert wine aroma’s push through again better than I expected (I hadn’t got great hopes for this beer I must admit)j Flavour is big alcohol, a metallic tinge was noted but thankfully this didn’t stay for long. Sticky sugars, caramel, its a bit rough at times and a bit hard to like but I’ve stuck with it and to be honest its not that bad at all.

11.2oz bottle. Cognac ruby-red caramel color. Aroma is sweet with a mild spicy character. Taste is big and full as you would expect from a beer of 12%. Very sticky, rich caramel and amber malt characteristics. Creamy and very warming. I really like this beer and find it to be quite unique.

Bottle: Dark golden with no real head, Scents of sweet and fruitiness, a little caramel apple scent going on. Flavor is dark fruits, sweetness, burnt sugar, and hints of the higher abv. Nothing to terribly exciting.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy light tan head and copper/orange color. Aroma is light malt/grain-light caramel, metallic. Taste is syrupy/slick and alcohol up front, moves to light malt/grain-light caramel, metallic hops, some cherry. OK carbonation. Somewhat unusual. Occasional.

Pours amber into a snifter. White head quickly subsides to hug rim. Sour cinnamon and alcohol aromas. Sticky and full with alcohol front to back. Lasting sour burning citrus finish.

Bottle. Copper beer with a thin off-white head. Malty, light plum fruit aroma. Sweet caramel flavor with plum, brown sugar and backing lemony citrus. Medium-plus body. Lingering brown sugar, sweet malt. Way too sweet, almost cloying. Needs time.

0.33L bottle pours a clear deep copper with quickly dissipating white head. In under a minute there was no evidence there had even been a head. The aroma is mostly a load of dark fruity esters like prunes, figs and cherries. The rest of the nose seems to be alcohol. It isnโ€™t too bad though. The taste is as fruity as the nose with a wide load of cherries, red apples, figs, over ripe plums and some vague spice (maybe cinnamon). About midway a mild caramel candy note is noticed along with faint malt roastiness. At the finish the alcohol wells up and threatens to take control of the flavor with mild hotness and smooth inviting warmth.

11.2oz bottle...Copper color, smells of alcohol...sweet alcohol...malts soaked in alcohol....the body has an initial sweetness, this blankets the high alcohol...the sweetness actually takes over almost all other flavors, I get a touch of vanilla and some heavy malt, bready quality...I like my bread dipped in alcohol, you?
