"My goodness," muttered Claus, recalling his visit to the Institute, "the restrictive outerwear, the padded room - even padded Christmas tree ornaments. Horrifying ! Yet the little chap seems happier than he's ever been." Claus took a thoughtful sip of a most warming red ale. "Perhaps sanity is over-rated... Ho,ho,ho!"

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a small beige head. The aroma was sour, tangy and tart with notes of caramel, candied fruit and cinnamon. The flavor was bitter and sour with notes of toasted caramel, sugar, ripe cherries, apples, plums, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. There is a whole lot going on in the flavor and the finish is long fruit and caramel. Thick and full bodied. Excellent.

Amber color; medium head. The aroma is initially malty and fruity, but it doesn’t last. Good body strength, round mouthfeel; sweet caramel flavor, with correct bitterness and light fruitness. Not as malty as a Barley Wine should be, it’s more a sweeter and fruiter version of Strong Ale; no thrills, but very enjoyable.

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of alcohol - barley wine sweet, nuts, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, malt, and caramel, leading to a dry aloholic finish. The alcohol leaves a burn in the throat.

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a quickly gone white head. Aroma is spiced, dense malty and alcohol. Sweet caramelish and slight roasted malty flavoured. Smooth roasted malt flavoured, alcohol warmth and smooth to oily mouthfeel. Lingering roasted malty finish with a nice alcohol warmth.

Appearance is glow-in-the-dark orange, very clear, minimal head that evaporates in seconds, and scant lacing. Smell is butterscotch and caramel. Taste is strong alcohol, scotch, and sweet dark fruit. Slight edge of bitterness and a dryish finish. Strength is too obvious, so drinking it is a bit of a chore.

9th July 2008. A nose of mild marmite. Taste is quite sweet but a sublte note of marmite carries over from the nose. Sweet malt with brandy and porty tones. Reasonably complex and quite drinkable!

Pour is a clear brown with almost no head at all. Aroma is super sweet caramel and booze. Flavor is some malt, corn syrup and alcohol. This is deffinalty not a barley wine and its way to sweet and cloying. Its like the brewer wanted to see out much sugar they could but in here to make the alcohol amped up.
