"My goodness," muttered Claus, recalling his visit to the Institute, "the restrictive outerwear, the padded room - even padded Christmas tree ornaments. Horrifying ! Yet the little chap seems happier than he's ever been." Claus took a thoughtful sip of a most warming red ale. "Perhaps sanity is over-rated... Ho,ho,ho!"

330ml bottle, bb: 04.11.20, by the courtesy of Finn. Off-white, bubbly head with short retention. Bright, golden-brown body, maybe with a red glint. Rather faint aroma of apricot and brown sugar. Dried fruits, honey syrup and sweet malts in flavour – indication of cloying sweetness. Notes of metallic alcohol. One-dimensional. Ok slow sipper without greater enjoyments (Tromsø, 26.12.2010).

Beautiful, red brown beer with a weak and beige head. Aroma is strongly malty, syrup, raisins, some red berries and hints of alcohol. Full bodied and slighlty sticky to drink. Flavour is simple, syrup and sweet, peppery and slightly drying in the end, alcohol is nicely hidden and it feels only with warming feeling in the throat. Nice and warming beer after cold outdoor activities; simple and quite easy barley wine.

Bottle. Poured a light, clear red with a very small white head that is virtually impossible to see after the pour is finished. Aroma was malts, alcohol, fruits. Flavor was fruits, sugar, a bit astringent.

Bottled 330ml (Alko, BB 11/2020)
The final elf? Beer is pale amber colored with good white head. Aroma has light apple fruityness and alcohol, like in the quality Russian strong lagers. Medium to full bodied. Powerful alcohol in the front, then some licorice, marmalade and red apples. Long lingering bitter alcohol in the finish. Yes, it is a real winter warmer but a bit too much even ...

Bottle from Alko. Poured clear, amber color, really nice looking. Thin white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, toffee. Flavor is similar, toffee and malt, bit too sweet for my taste. No alcohol deteced. Feels quite positive about this beer, although bit thin and low in flavor.

330ml bottle from Alko

English Barley Wine with a surprisingly light body and a lot of sweetness that hides the alcohol well. Too unbalanced and sweet for my taste.

Bottle 33 cl. Clear dark amber with a smallish, rough off-white head. Intensely alcoholic nose - almost brandy-like - combined with some caramel. Quite full-bodied, notes of burned caramel and nuts but dominated by burning alcohol all through the finish. 090110

Bottle. Dark bronze beer with a very little head and a reddish tinge. The aroma is malty and sweet and the flavour is sugary sweet and barley wine like. Overall an average strong English ale.

Bottled@Punavuoren Ahven, Helsinki. Deep amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is alcohol, grass, some grains, strong sugary sweet and quite out of balance. Flavour is caramel malts, alcohol, some grassy and fruity hops along with plum and raisins. The alcoholic sweetness is coming through rather much.
