Halia is a farmhouse ale aged in wine barrels with whole peaches, resulting in bright, effervescent fruit notes in a soft, hazy body that finishes slightly tart and sweet with the pleasant character of ripe, juicy peaches. Literally meaning “remembrance of a loved one” in Hawaiian, Halia was brewed in memory of the dear friend of one of our brewers who loved peaches.

Sample during "Farm Fest 2025" on 07/05/2025. Clear golden color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of tart fruit, yeast and malt. Medium body with flavors of tart peaches, yeast and doughy malt. The finish is fruity with a peach and citrus aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Hazy amber beer, thin film for the head. Smells sour, fruity and a little funky. Flavour is fresh and fruity, quite sharp, you really get the wine. I like this a lot.

Very clean, has a bit of that lambic taste, but also very approachable. Recommended but not for any outstanding uniqueness. Beer temple ams

Backlog. Jan 14 2017 bottle rated June 22 2019 it looks and tastes kind of like a gueuze as the peach is so mild. There’s wild yeast funky tartness, malty sweetness, and vaguely fruity character. I’m not knocking it though. It’s very good.

Deep and very hazy golden coloured body with a thick, three to four centimetre tall pure white head that takes some time before dying. Aroma of beautiful funky oak, soured, tart foeder notes with a dry floral and almost grassy finish that shows a lot of brett notes along with some spontaneous fermentation funky soured qualities. Light to Medium-bodied; Deep dry and soured flavours dominate with some brett and gueuze-y like complexities from the yeast, but with a slightly more sweet and pronounced citrus quality that takes away a litle from the pure wild and sour notes and leaves it more in the sweet and yeastie bucket. Aftertaste shows some light malty and grassy finishes along with a dash of funk, yeast, bread and especially soured fruit (apples, pears and peaches) notes and a good level of sweetness to couple with the light alcohol bite. Overall, a fairly good take by a macrobrewery on a spontaneous fermented beer that shows relatively nicely, but will ultimately never come to as 'real' as a flavour profile as you'd expect from anything by Almanac, Crooked Stave or of course Cantillon. That said, I was happy to try this one. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased at Smith's Liqour Gallery in Rapid City, South Dakota on 25-June-2020 for US$8,99, bottled on 14-January-2017, sampled in my hotel room here in Wall, South Dakota on 29-June-2020, three and a half years after bottling (but just four days after purchase!).
