Ale with Strawberries, Honey, and White Pepper Aged in Wine Barrels
Inspired by an amuse bouche often prepared by the wife of one of our brewers, Scully brings white pepper, strawberry, and honey to a harmonious blend of “mouth amusement”. The ingredients are added at different stages to a Saison, and fermented with a normal Belgian yeast as well as a Champagne yeast.

Bottle shared by Jeff. This is one of the better examples of an American sour, and in particular from the midwest. Bright yellow color. I pick up a little pepper. It is sour, and again, particularly sour for an American, almost getting into lambic territory. Lots of yeast in the aroma.

Bottle. Pours orange gold with white head. Fizzy carbonation. Nose and taste of strawberry, oak, white wine, honey and light pepper spice. Some lemongrass and fruity yeast. Mildly acidic. Medium body. Nice beer but not worth the price.

Bottle at Smoke and Barrel in DC. Poured a nice hazy yellow color, some light haze to it, with a nice white head. Aroma was notes of light, sweet strawberries, some tart notes, with a touch of fizzy yeast character. Flavor was nice, light tart strawberries, some light dry saison spice notes. Pretty dry finish, enjoyable.

Flavors are jammy intensely good strawberry. White wine, funk, white pepper. Mild lactic, mild breadlines. Very easy to drink. Lively carb.

Questionably small "10oz" pour at Dexters. Hazy yellow tan body. Sweet aroma, mild strawberry lemon lime, barnyard. A pretty solid offering, delicate and true to style, but with the added complexities of the strawberry. Delicate, creamy, puffy body. Some honey booze tones, but very drinkable. Refreishing fresh, light strawberry tones. One of the best strawberry beers Ive had.

Writing up more notes from the August 2011 Midwest Brewers Fest. Some strawberry juice in the nose and color of my taster glass. Also some Belgian spiciness. Once the foam settles, I get a somewhat cloudy Belgian pale color. Taste is just slightly tart. This is the pour that kicked the keg, so I’m sure the carbonation is more than it was made for. Belgian pale malt taste. Not a lot of bitterness besides. Pretty easy drinking. Alcohol content was wqell hidden.

Gabf. Hazy, light yellow appearance with a white head. Light proper, quite strong strawberry, yeasty aroma. Peppery, strong fresh strawberry, sweet yeasty flavor.
