Murphy's Law reversed! When you have an off spec beer you are left with two choices. Dump it or play with it. We at Nøgne Ø believe in seeing the possibilities and grasping the opportunities given. Our miscoloured Saison was put in fresh red wine barrels, and the flavours created we found irresistible. So we made more. This bottle contains a blend of our finest red wine barel aged Saison.

Norwegian saison, sampled at BeerTemple. Lacing, off-white, moussy head, ochre golden blonde robe, cloudy. Rich aroma of a lot of white grape peel and dry white wine, honey, dough, mandarin peel, sour apple, yoghurt, dried banana, wet hay, gooseberry. Fruity onset, hints of peach, pineapple, pear and some banana but most of all unripe gooseberry, softish carbo, bready malt body with a honeyish sweetish touch but dried by a soft lactic tartness which is further enhanced by a vinous tartness in the end, paired with a slight woody touch and earthy hop bitterishness. Majestically beautiful, still fairly clean but completely to the point, this is truly a tribute to the Belgian strong saison style.

Sampled from tap at ’Beertemple’ during Carnivale Brettanomyces 2016. Hazy, golden amber with a white head. Fruity, slightly funky aroma of lemon, gooseberry and straw. Fruity, slightly grassy and moderately funky taste of lemon, gooseberry, white grapes and some straw, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, rather grassy-dry and a little tart finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice!

Tap at BeerTemple. Cloudy golden with huge fluffy bubbly head. Lots of saison yeast, sweet white wine, Brett, light herbs. Light sweet and sour. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Interesting, but i don’t like it that much.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Naama. Hazy deep golden. Nice aroma of wine, oak, funk, fruitiness. Sweetish and slightly tart flavor, very vinous, with oak, light funk, fruitiness, a bit of spiciness, and a bit of bitterness in the finish. Over-carbonated.
