The first house on this site was built around 1730 and was called Poles. This was leased in 1800 to Sampson Hanbury, a key figure in the London brewery Truman, Hanbury & Buxton. The Hanbury brewing legacy has now been brought back to the 21st century by this celebration premium real ale. This rich copper coloured ale has been handcrafted using the original recipe with a modern twist, producing a flavoursome ale showing spice, honey, underpinned by grapefruit lemon and pine overtones.

500ml bottle from The Red Squirrel in Berkhamsted. Copper in the glass, the ale starts smooth and mild. Toffee, very dry, roasted malt. Nice and round dry malty ale characteristic. A bit thin in body till the end, but highly refreshing and malty with a moderate bitterness in the end. On the tongue last hints of hazelnuts, brown roasted malt and a very crisp and dry ale-bitterness. Round and great!
