Tap @ Constanzer Wirtshaus on the edge of Lake Constance in Konstanz. Clean, clear and crisp lager, not blessed with a lot of taste, but what's there suffices. Golden with a head.

Bottle courtesy of Koelschtrinker. My first German Helles oddly having tried two English attempts at the style. Pours a clear pale gold, one finger of head, some retention. Aroma is semi-sweet, grassy and hoppy flora. Taste is light grassy, sweet, malts, slight floral hop. Fairly light body but quite smooth and moderate carbonation. Incredibly easy to drink, balanced but not much going on. Probably not the best example of a Helles but I found it quite enjoyable and good with food.

Süffiger, hell herber Beginn. Kernig getreidig, minimal bitter, spritzig, ansteigend getreidig. Konstante Aromatik, etwas trockener Hintergrund. Gut. 8/10/10/9//10

(bottle, courtesy of Quack-Duck) Clear, pale golden colour with a blond medium-sized foamy head. Grainy malty aroma with traces of vanilla. Mildly sweet and bitter flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Doughy malty taste with shy grainy notes, replaced by quite harsh grassy hops towards the sweet-bitter finish. Unrefined Helles. 24.I.16

Big thanks to quack-duck for that one. Bottle looks simple but really good. Beer in the glass zippy, nice head. Dry malty aroma. Starts mild, malty, modest dry, some metallically notes. Light spicy background. Some hints of lemon. Finish still mild, malty, still dry. Okay.

Bottle(Diky do Kostníc!): Pale greenish-golden, clear, mid-sized and relatively slowly collapsing loose white head; papery and grainy-dusty nose; mild to moderate sweetish-bitter flavour, light bodied and relatively soft; mild bitter-lemony finish, papery flavour permanently detectable. Poor and disappointing. Had to blend it with a Witzgall to create a drinkable "pint"! Jan Hus to by nepíl…

bottle from Weinkauff Markdorf. Clear straw-golden yellow with a tall white head. Malty, shy hoppy hints, some cardboard, shy grassy touch. The fact why a Konstanzer (why the c?) beer comes from Bayreuth even though Konstanz has got its own traditional and pretty good brewery (Ruppaner) and is nothing more than your boring average Helles that could have come from any big brewery is far beyond my imagination. Unnecessary.
