NO RULES were followed throughout the creation of this product. This gigantic 15% Imperial Porter is deceptively smooth and subtly sweet with layers of flavor that never seem to end. Some say it tastes like a Mounds candy bar that’s been dipped over and over again in rich chocolate and soaked in bourbon. Other people find flavors of coconut, cinnamon, toffee, vanilla, and coffee — and they would also be correct. This beer is special and there’s a reason why it was named as the top beer in the World.

A pour from the bottle (thx, Kory V.!) on Black Christmas V. Pours a dark brown with almost no head. Aroma is very nicr with chocolate, bourbon, and coconut. Taste is similar, quite sweet, very fruity. Nice one.

At Hopishop 2017. Aroma of chocolate, coconut, cacao and some sweet roasted malt. Taste has chocolate, earthy coconut, cacao powder, vanilla, cream and sweet-ish roasted malt. Nice and flavorful, but somehow I expected even more from it.

Bourbon barrel aged coconut porter of unusual strength even for an imperial one. Medium thick, lightly lacing, yellowish beige head, very dark burgundy brown robe, approaching black. Aroma of coconut candy, toffee, dried figs, molten chocolate, treacle, brown sugar, candied dates, brown rum but also a very unpleasant slurry pit-like odour - this clearly harbours sone kind of infection, sadly. Sweet onset, candied figs topped with treacle, light sourish and umami accents. Lots of residual brown sugar and big coconut flavourings penetrate a sweet caramelly and chocolatey malt body; Bounty candy- and even marzipan-like notes linger with some hoppy spiciness and the obvious rum-like booze, yet the latter manages to behave surprisingly decent - I would never have suspected such a towering ABV in this. A lovely idea - accentuating the (admittedly largely arbitrary) distinction between imperial stout and imperial porter with extra sugar and coconut sweetness. Would have been a fantastic dessert beer if it weren't for that off-putting slurry pit-like aspect in the nose, which prevents me from granting it a top score.

Poured into a wineglass showing lightly filtered caramel brown with no head. The nose shows subtle molasses and light dark chocolate. The palate is full bodied and lightly carbonated with a moderate alcoholic spiciness. Moderately sweet showing brown sugar and caramel throughout with a subtle coffee bitterness with more sweetness on the finish.
