Imperial Stout

Brewed with an abundance of malts, this stout is smooth as silk, yet complex and rich in body. Best enjoyed at cellar temperature to allow the notes of chocolate, dark fruit and caramel to soar. Put another log on the fire, sit back and enjoy the moment with this full-bodied and utterly delicious cold weather companion.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with full dark tan head. Aromas of dark milk chocolate, vanilla. And creamy toasted malts. Flavors of light smoked nuts and chocolate, creamy coffee, dark vanilla and soy sauce, and rich toasted malts. An incredible stout got the price! Extra marks...

Profoundly bitter Imperial Stout, bruising and clingy, a bit much to take fresh. Starts with a heavy, syrupy rush of dark chocolate and alcohol, then gains a raisin-licorice note while the IBUs amp up their attack. Finishes with a sizeable dose of boozy heat, semisweet and viscous with a dry, resinous hop fade. The bitterness is manageable; the heat, not so much. Needs at least a few months on the shelf to grind down its jagged edges. Only rates decent at three(ish) months. EDIT 12/25/22: Drinks so much better at three(ish) years. Opened a 2019 tonight. Booze is gone, dark/dried fruits and dark chocolate are more prominent, and the anise and roast blend perfectly with the moderate sweetness. Easily a 4.2 - 4.5 now.

How can this not be a 100 for style? I felt the beer looked like a picture perfect stout and had exactly what I want in terms of mouthfeel (full velvety smoothness). Deep inky black with a rusty tan head. Incredibly thick and full mouthfeel. The taste is raisins, roasty chocolate and oatmeal smoothness. A good depth of flavor. Excellent.

Bottle from Hopt.nl, bottled on 11/30/16, 35 cl sample. Pitch black oily color, medium superdark brown frothy head. Aroma of chocolate fudge and molasses, roasty coffee and slight spicy licorice and tobacco. Big and bold roasty bitterness with hints of dark bread. Slight alcohol burn in the finish. For me, lacks a bit sweetness and creamy chocolate. It focuses mainly on big and bold roast. Actually, Im not that impressed.

Draft 8 oz pour at Stogies and Hops, Mill Creek. Listed as Russian Imperial Stout. Cola like brown pour with with a tan fizz head. Looks thinner than it drinks. Chocolate and bourbon heavy aroma. Syrupy, bourbon, cool chocolate. Toasty remainder. Big toasted linger. Overall a good imperial, but not quite great. Bold. Tasty.

355ml Bottle - Black with a tan head. Plain chocolate, leather and vinous fruits in the aroma. Molasses, treacle, coffee and plain chocolate can all be detected in the rich taste. Quite boozy.

At home. Bottle kind courtesy of Maakun. Big roasted choco malts, butterscotch, blueberries, some cashew nuts, barley, rubber tire. Big sweet and moderate roast bitter. Full body, oily thick and dense in aroma. Low carbonation. Classy stuff. Fruity roasty choc finish.
