Matilda 2013: Belgian Pale Ale. A beautiful amber color with light carbonation but no real head. Great aroma, almost allspice like with floral & grape notes... The taste is a sweet malty base with fruity & spicy belgian yeast notes, a full mouthfeel & an effervescent carbonation. Lots of fruit flavor, a wonderful beer.

Draft @ The Barley Pub with a hefty price tag of $10.50 for a tulip, Damn that hurts! Color is a deep burnt orange with small soapy, white head. Aroma of dried fruit, spice and mild barnyard. Flavor is Belgian yeast, candy sugar and mild floral hops. Medium bodied with a sweet finish. I liked this beer, just not for this price tag. I could find a 22 oz. bottle for the same price or less. I’m sure this would also age nicely in the cellar as well.

Very nice orange-gold body with decent beige head. Great hoppy aroma, with hints of orange in the notes. Smells very much like a complex orange-juice tonic... appealing, eh? The flavour is a strong barley-orange mix with a simple dry finish, a great Belgian-style brew, more like an orange schnapps experience. Decent finish. This is a great orange-style heavy Belgian brew, a nice reminiscence of what life was like back there. But nonetheless a little heavy and overbearing.

Amber, clear, big frothy head, some lacing
Aroma of soft Belgain yest, sweet pale malts, some floral esters, bit of honey, slight cereal note, touch of funk, very soft lemon
Taste as aroma, soft aromatic fruity malts, soft sweet cereal, alcohol well hidden, soft spicy hops, light bready malt, hint of apricot, light honey, mellow belgian yeast, I like this
Palate - Medium body and carb, smooth texture. Finish as main flavour, soft tangy yeast note in finish, quite dry sweet tail
Overall - Soft mellow sweet but quite complex beer - it’s good

Aroma: Fruity, Belgian yeast, apples, peppery and spices
Taste: Malty, sweet toffee, spices, finishes with a mild bitterness, dry

2012 bottle, 11C. Orval glass. Orangish amber with a thick cream head that lasts well. Fruity aroma with nectarines, lemon pudding, spices, a little caramel. Creamy texture, quite yeasty and that muddies things a bit. A bit undercarbonated for me. Sweet caramel and nectarines, less citrus than suggested in the aroma, lots of spices, a fair bit of bitterness, slightly zingy sourness.Lacks that light, dry intensity of what it apes. Less convincing as it warmed. Probably like it better with a year on it.

Aroma has toffee typical to aged Belgian Ales, some apricot, plums and grainy note. Flavour has plums, some overripe aprifot, ripe fruits, some toffee and hints of peppery spices. Also the same off‐flavour I observed in an aged bottle of Mikkeller It’s Alive! The sour aroma I liked about this is gone. Better fresh, but not bad in this way either.
