Liquorice is one of our favourite ingredients at Vibrant Forest and, as it's currently freezing in this wee brewery, we decided to both imperialise and sour things a little.

The aroma is dense, the souring and the liquorice blending into a titanic wall of flavour. The palate takes an immediate assault. Upfront is a smouldering wall of thick imperial stout; the souring has sharpened off the expected roasted edges and is suprisingly balanced. The finish releases the liquorice on a wave of tart soy and roasted malts.

Dunkler, minimal säuerlich malziger Beginn. (Zum Glück) geringe Noten von Süßholz, intensiv malzig, etwas trocken schokoladig. Mild würzig malziger Abgang. Okay. 11/9/8/10/12/9

Bottle from Hoptimism. Vinous liquorice and coffee aroma. Poors dark and oily. Let down by zero head. Liquid salt liquorice. Bitter with a sour edge and salty base. The sourness gains strength as it warms up. Thick bodied. Oily. Flat carbonation. Long astringent finish. Hmmm. Can imagine this disgusting some people. As it is I love salmiakki - salt liquorice - but this is definitely a sipper. Does what is says on the bottle.

Bottle @ Højbjerg tasting 27 July. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel and lactose, with hints of fruit. Roasty, biscuity and sourish flavour with notes of malt and touches of hops and yeast. Dry and roasty aftertaste with coffeelike hints. Decent.

27/7/2018. Bottle shared at John's. Pours almost black but with no head. Aroma of liquorice, sour berries, chocolate, light roasted malt, toffee, coffee, hops and a hint of honey. Medium plus sweetness, moderate bitterness, medium sour. Full bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation. I think it worked.
