AleSmith’s interpretation of this classic English-style ale is smooth, dark, and rich. A variety of specialty malts produce a brilliant dark brown color and a wonderful malt complexity. A light dose of East Kent Goldings and Styrian Goldings hops from England balance the malt sweetness without adding bitterness to the flavor profile. Reintrodcued at AleSmith in 2002, Nautical Nut Brown ale has quickly become one of our most popular beers.

Can, 9C (too cold?). Clear brown with a pale beige head that settles to a cm. Aroma of chocolate, bread, mildly earthy and spicy hops. Fairly light bodied. Moderately sweet with a dryish and spicy bitter finish. Fine but not much character.

Enjoyable English brown, like a cocoa-dusted toasted biscuit underlined by subtle dark fruit notes and a mild floral-mineral bitterness on the back end. Caramel sweetness peeks through the yeasty finish, but the fade remains dry with hints of almond, pine, and pumpernickel. Perfect beer to combat summer pale lager proponents. (Refreshing is not a flavor, dammit.)

Pour is almost a complete black with a large tan head that goes away quickly. Aroma is a decent mix of caramel and roast. Flavor is pretty much the same as the aroma. A nice non sweet caramel with a touch of roasted malt and there is a bit of cocoa power after the swallow. Not a huge fan of brown ales but this had a little extra flavor profile to make it enjoyable.
