This German-style black lager has a deep color and gently roasted flavors balanced by an understated hoppiness. A thirst-quenching version of dark beer. A 2008 Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal Winner in the German Schwarzbier category.

A pale brown beer with a fine light brown head. The aroma is very light - what is there is of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel combined with light roasted notes.

(draught) Clear, deep-brown to black; brownish full head. Nose of sweet chocolate. Again some tobacco - and... melon. Sweet and dark malts in the taste. Indeed very German in style, sweet finish, not cloying. Bread-like. Light to medium bodied. Aftertaste gives a bit of liquorice, and again sweet chocolate. Nice, in style, though a German might have had a slightly more smoked character.

Dark amber colour with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet and very malty. Thin-bodied; The only taste from this is a very strong maltiness, which lingers in the palate as well. A bit too watery for my liking, but pretty decent overall. Fairly average for the style even though it isn't one of my favourites. I had this on tap at the brewpub in Denver, Colorado on 12-August-2003.
