(Bottle, Delirium Monasterium, 20 Oct 2012) Reddish brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins and red fruit. Slightly vinous. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, raisins, prunes, caramel, brown sugar and a spicy bitterness in a warming finish with a slight alcohol bite. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Quiet complex, but in excellent balance. Very nice.

750 ml bottle. Pours a mahogany brown with medium head. Aromas of raisins, figs, caramel, and roasted malts. Incredibly rich. Flavors of dark fruits, toffee, tobacco, and malts. Excellent. Just like the Grand Cru.

330ml bottle. Pours dark orange, with a small head and floaties. Another beer from these guys with the bottling poor. Aroma is caramel and raisin. Sweet alcohol. Taste has orange to start with alcohol and raisin on the finish.

0.75 litre bottle: best before 9 Nov 2013, poured into three chalices during a random tasting evening at my house in Aug 2012. The sediment came up with the pour and at a pace: so each glass ended up with a messy, chunky, hazy liquid within. The actual colour of the brew is dirty brown and no head wanted to be seen on top. The smells were of a spiced fruit cake which had been caramelised and over cooked: the taste was very similar to the aromas and the lumps did break up a little as the beer warmed, but it wasn’t the greatest Belgian Christmas experience you’re ever going to get. I’m going for OK rather than good, even though the brew has some fine flavours it lets it’s self down with the overall look and the floating sediment.

33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 28.08.2012
Bottle starts to foam after opening and mixes up all the yeast – a very typical opening ceremony for this brewery.
Aroma has ripe fruits and toffee typical to an aged belgian ale. Flavour has ripe, dark fruits, apricot, licorice, some anise and spice. Nice and rich.

33cl bottle. Brown colour with off-white head. Aroma is slightly..., what??. Flavour unknown... I think that the bottle was infected. A pity for this Christmas beer. I need another bottle to re-rate this beer.

75cl bottle, BBE 08/2014. Poured dark amber with a huge, lasting beige head. Loads of sediments floating around. Aroma is yeasty, peppery, dark fruity, hint of alcohol. Flavor is dark fruits, orange, yeast and some hoppy notes. High carbonation. Long warming, spicy finish. Highly drinkable.
