Best before Dec 12, 2011. Bottle purchased online from France 44 in Minnesota.
Ah, revisiting an old friend; I haven't tasted it in many years.
It looks to be a pitch black with a creamy +1 finger head of foam and it leaves some nice lacing. Excellent head retention during the session.
A nice roasted malt nose with under currents of chocolate, both sweet and dark. There's a nice bitter/sweet thing going on.
The taste brings the smell to my taste buds. Roasty, bitter and sweetish from the chocolate, some hoppy notes that I have tasted in quite a few Australian ales/lagers. Quite tasty and surprisingly, brings a bit of an alcohol burn.
Pretty light bodied with medium carbonation, it has an above average mouth feel. Drinkability is good despite the "burn". In years past, I found Sheaf Stout and excellent brew to experiment with black and tans. I'm glad I found this one again.

From old tasting notes. Deep dark brown color with a brownish tan head. Roasted chocolatey malt nose. Sweet roasted malt flavor is coffee-like and bitter. Good body. Burnt caramel finish is long and pleasing. Tasty and drinkable.

Bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out toasted malt and a doughy quality. Flavour is dull, with dry toasted malt and a stale quality. Pretty stale and lifeless. Bad.

Bottle on the RBSG bus. Pours a very dark brown with beige head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is cracker and cookies. Medium mouth, cracker malt, roast, decent.

Not sure why, but this seems to be everywhere in Washington- and it sells for about $3 a bomber. Black with a beige head. Strong roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate, and booze in the aroma. Surprisingly thin body. Flavor is a bit too heavy on the vanilla, but also has notes of roasted malt and chocolate. This is mostly a vanilla bomb in the flavor. Not bad, really, just really hard to drink a while bottle of.

750ml bottle into pint glass. Dark chocolate nose. Opaque black beer with lasting tan head. Bitter & zingy on the tongue. Finishes with bitter coffee notes. Lasting cocoa note right at the end. Beautifully balanced.

750 ml bottle. Dark pour with little head. This one surprised me a bit. Aroma is of sweet milk chocolate. A lot of chocolate, malty flavor with a strong, sweet coffee finish. This was less than $4 and I am very impressed with the beer/price combo. Good stuff.
