Don’t just take our word for it, ask any fisherman and they’ll attest – it’s not only the trickle of trout that bites on the tranquil River Stour at Blandford.

Should you wade these waters on a warm summer’s night, beware the infamous Blandford Fly, whose bothersome bite can only be soothed with a spicy slice of fresh ginger.

A uniquely sweet and spicy golden ale with a refreshingly different ginger taste, offset with hints of sweet toffee.

Pours amber with a small fading head.Nose shows boring plain grainy malt at first but is quickly replaced by spicy ginger.Flavours show even more ginger, reminding me of gingerbread with the sweet plain malt that follows. Finishes weakly with no bitterness.Moderate carbonation, should be higher.Overall, too much ginger, not enough backing malt or bitterness.

500ml bottle. Pours light golden with no head. Aroma is some ginger, caramel and slightly metalic. Sweet to start on the taste, then the ginger, with no spice or heat. A nice drink, but could use some more ginger.

Amber, pale beige head. Smells sharply of ginger. Slightly sweet taste with lots of ginger that has some spice shop mustiness and hotness to it. I can feel the ginger astringency on my lips. I rather liked it, but it’s not very beer-like at all. I bet this would be great with Korean food.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. Contains sulphites. Deep golden colour, big head rapidly diminishing. Aroma of ginger, syrup and and some fruit, hints of toffee. The flavour is very sweet, syrupy and sugary, with a moderate but nice ginger burn in the finish. Hardly any hops. Not really my kind of beer, but drinkable.

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Clear golden colour, short white head. This is not for me. Ginger and spices, and some flowery sweet syropy flavours. Yuk.

It’s not often that I know my feelings towards a beer after the first sip, but this one didn’t waste any time letting me know it was a waste. Peppery, spicy, sweet, and ginger. Finished way to sweet- way too sweet. I couldn’t pour this one down the drain because I was at a bar, but I surely wanted to. Hm, say something good...oh, very unique. Also, I won’t say it was brewed poorly, it’s just not a beer I would pick up again.

bottle 50cl. appeared clear yellow, small white head. aroma of hops, ginger, honey. very sweet flavor, honey, syrup, ginger, slight alc. sweet but also peppery probably due to lots of spices. overall it was too much ginger and too much spices in some sort of very unbalanced way. otherwise very good.
