Don’t just take our word for it, ask any fisherman and they’ll attest – it’s not only the trickle of trout that bites on the tranquil River Stour at Blandford.

Should you wade these waters on a warm summer’s night, beware the infamous Blandford Fly, whose bothersome bite can only be soothed with a spicy slice of fresh ginger.

A uniquely sweet and spicy golden ale with a refreshingly different ginger taste, offset with hints of sweet toffee.

50 cl bottle also with the label Blandford Flyer. Thin white head. Clear golden pour. Not a fan of ginger. Not a beer I will drink again.

Unless there’s an entry missing, the bottle I have is clearly called "Blandford FlyER’ Shortlived transparent head over clear pale orange beer. Very spicy yeast, peppery and rosemary-like, ginger; bit X-mas ale-like (which it probably is, seen the decoration of the label?) Ginger very dominant in the taste, but still some good malts behind. Not too sweet, and a very peppery finish. Not bad, but maybe a bit tiring after a while, despite its "refreshing" aim. Sharpness of the ginger masks the chronic undercarbonation a bit; light body. Not one to drink full pints of. Still, nice try.

Unusual supermarket bottle, one of the best from Waitrose. Ginger is evident and other spices. Nice beer more sweet than bitter

Warning! Early amateur rating! Unusal ale. The ginger is noticeable but there are also what I can only describe as Fishermans Friend flavours as well. Different!

bottle from Waitrose Sidmouth. Clear golden colour, small head. Spicy ginger nose. Malty base witha spicy ginger character, not overpowering the beer flavours. Slightly hoppy.

Medium white head. Amber body with carbonation. Soapy spicy ginger aroma with cedar wood notes. Dry-sweetish cedar wood and ginger taste with cinnamon and dried fruit notes. Hot mouthfeel. Light body. Dry hot strawy sun-heated cedar wood aftertaste. Fairly intense ginger, but not bad. Still, difficult to drink this fast. (0.5l bottle, Sainsbury’s, London.)
